  1. Choose which car next! One of the vitesse's (pre war) or perhaps the roadster! Hmmmmmm 🙂
  2. Well I'm finally home! Just enjoying the porcelain! It was a great event, and even better meeting you all that I chat to on here, nice to put faces to names, I would like to thank wholeheartedly the organisers and staff who made this possible. And especially to the chap in the discovery who see us arriving late at one checkpoint up Norf (I forgot wich one, I will ask dirk) he turned round and drove the few miles back to sign our book! Top man. At one point, we were actually inside the time at two c.p's (don't know how!)Â Â but then traffic and hills along the way dropped us off the pace again. But it was nice overtaking saloons with the old girl! (until the dreaded hills!) Thanks all, and thank so mich for the chearing and clapping we recieved when arriving at the latter c.p's And Chris you nutter! So so glad to see that huge grin on your face, well done matey.  ;) And also thank you once again to the Macmillan nurses, they did a great job with my mum last month, and also supported my father, so think you.
  3. Pictures of this years run. The plough last night! Roy did you take one of the cars together? (I forgot)  :B
  4. Well I have been quite busy lately, have a new job, still lots to do in the house, plus I had to visit uk at short notice because my mum is not well. I will hopefully get to work on the car next week. :)

  6. Good to finish on a high matey!   ;) And at least tonight I didn't smash my face with the crow bar! See you tomorrow.
  7. James the 4A-GE is a little sreamer! Nice engines. As for the above 6 speed, theres a lot of "if" & "maybe" so I dont think many will go for it, you need to change so many parts to make it work. The type 9 is an easier route and they are still available.
  8. Yes jack it with a piece of wood on the jack pad.
  9. Before you fitted the clutch to the flywheel, did you try the friction plate on the gearbox input shaft? Depending on what make, some clutches are not as precise as original, and I see it before where the splines were tight or damaged. on Dirk's renown, the replacement clutch friction plate had one or two of the splines slightly burred over, a quick clean with the file and the box dropped in easy.

    Axle clunk

Beans, are those collapsable spacers the same as the land rover ones (can't think off the top of my head the part number) but they are still available (the leyland guys just dipped into the same parts bins! Later Range rover classic door handles same as marina, switches same as metro etc etc
  11. Ah ok I see now, you will have to make the legs wide so you can roll the chassis from under. But it's a good idea.

    clutch fluid

Before rebuilding them, look to see why there was a leak. Perished seals, then just renew, but if the cylinder bore is damaged, it will just ruin new seals in no time. You can get new liners for cylinders, but for the life of me I can't remember the company whodo them. A lot of new cylinders are made abroad and are not as good as originals. But I would investigate it further your self, it will save you money and you can have the satisfaction of doing it yourself. If you do get the garage to do it, ask them for the old pieces, so you can take them home and look at them, they may be ok to renovate for spares. Have fun Cheers
  13. I repaired the mk2 spit of Dirk, body on chassis on my rotisserie, and my mk3 Iis on it now. Yes its a little top heavy as you rotate it, but the way I built it, you use a long bar to turn it and it is no problem. It has a locking pin so you can lock it in various positions. Makes panel replacement so much easier. See my thread mk2 restoration.
  14. Well here is the "slappers to be"  ;)

  16. The end flange can be fitted two ways (180 degrees) but that is no problem, it does not affect balance. as you fit the new joint, and circlips, don't forget to make sure it's seated back against the clips, so that it is not "dragging" the best way to test, hold the prop, and lift the flange, let go and it should drop with no or very little resistance. Then if you have pulled the prop apart, fit the sliding joint, so that the position of the yokes (on the main prop and inner part of the sliding joint) are the same orientation, or you can also look at the two end flanges for the same result. I.e. one is not 90 degrees different from the other! Hope that makes sense,  :)
  17. I would try bill ( rarebits.) Be warned some of the cheaper ones are the ring profile and can cause further problems, I'll fitting or leaking. Bill is one of the nicest and honest traders I have met, and when I'm at the point in my build for rubbers I will get them from him.

  19. I have just put aside a nice spring at work for that very purpose! So I think I need to make two then!  ;)

    selling an engine

Gt6s wrote: You cannot judge a book by its cover. Laurence That's true, we had a customer buy a second hand engine (td5 land rover) from a right off also, (but it was already out when he bought it) It did look like new though, he was told it had only done 20 thousand k, we fitted it (no guaranty on our behalf, customer supplied engine) It knocked like a outhouse door in the wind, long story short, it had two pistons broken, liners knackered, and head was smashed. (so was that why the car was wrote off???) And then on the other side, my friend bought a rover V8 for €30! I kid you not, it was in the chaps shed sat in the way, he said it was a runner over 10years ago! My mate fitted it, and it purrs like a kitten, and is still going strong about 5 years on! So you can never tell! Can you advertise it for "x" amount complete with ancilleries, or "y" amount without, It's then up to the buyer if they want it or not!  :)
  21. I agree with dave, we have a customer at work who uses his truck once or twice a week, and he only drives a couple of kilometres. (from his depot to another) Anyway, the truck was in a few weeks ago for service, and I had to set the tappets, when I took the rocker cover off it was full of "mayo" spattered all over the inside, but the oil was ok. It is because he does not drive it enough! As long as its not boiling up, over pressurising, oil in water/lots of water in the oil, loss of coolant, Then I would not worry about it, just take it for a good run. If its not been used for a while, give it a oil and coolant change. And flush/back flush the radiator!
  22. That's good news Chris, let's hope he makes the improvements to them, and makes them better. And let's hope his customer service is a lot better. (and the kits are less than half price! )  ;D ;D ;D
  23. If its Astrali, it will be stamped on the rear. I have two that look a lot like that, but they have the name on the rear.
