  1. Keep yer chin up ted! Take it easy until your fit to run about.  ;) My dog will know the feeling tonight, as he goes for his knee op today! (not a replacement) but he dislocated his knee and torn the ligament inside! Hope to meet you on the RBRR. You know when your a petrol head when the missus brings you in a bag of spanners and workshop manuals instead of grapes and crossword books! Go carefull. Cheers
  2. That looks clean Steve, I think it needs the light panel painting black to set it off.
  3. As they say each to there own. But I personally prefer the de-bumpered look. Makes them look cleaner I think. (sorry not much help I suppose)  :)

Wim, When you go and see the car, ask him how much for a set of 5 steel wheels. (I'm hatching a plan!) They need to be cheap! Cheers
  9. Yes Wim did this in his thread on the spitfire section. He converted to led bulbs. (I presume they are the same bulbs as a spit? Edit: found his thread, it was in technical [Sorry, link no longer available] But I'm sure I have seen one somewhere on here where someone has taken apart the old style lamp and fitted the new led lamp into the original holder, thought it was that one from Wim, but it's not.

  11. Arrgghhhhh! How dare you post a rude disgusting picture on this forum!  :D ;D ;D is it dirty, or faded (turned yellow) if it's turning yellow then it may be past saveable, but it's worth giving basso a go! Plus you can then also go home and clean any brass ornaments your mum may have!

And no big difference between the 4 cylinders, a small difference is ok. If they are low, squirt some oil into the bores and re test, if they go higher, it means the rings are worn. Yes, throttle fully open, also take out the spark plugs, (turns over easier, and won't flatten the battery as fast) Disconnect the coil lead. Check the crank end float, get your friend to sit in the car, press the clutch while you look at the front pulley! It should not move a lot, if at all. Check there was anti freeze in the water! Or has he just topped it up! Pull the oil dip stick out, and look at the oil, is it good, or milky, or grey/black. Once the engine is running, listen for any noises, from the top end, and bottom end, also listen if the alternator makes a noise. Look to see if the water pump is not leaking! (may do if the motor has sat for a long time) As I think of more I will let you know.  ;)

  15. As jens said, take pictures and post them up here, we will help you get through it. Another good idea is to buy a workshop manual, that will help you see what your doing.  :)
  16. esxefi wrote:how does it add strength? I suppose it will add strength to the "flex" of the motor. Not had personnel experience with the 6 yet, but going by what rover did with the V8 for the same reasons, when they cross bolted their blocks!
  17. That "spitfire multispark" belongs in the bin. They are a gimmick to "improve spark" but translated, that means "just take money from the gullible" I have seen one or two of them fitted to cars, and they do nothing whatsoever! Like many of the "improve your fuel economy" or "better spark" etc etc, they are just scams.

  19. What about http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/ I know a friend of mine used them in the past, but I have not personally, you'll have to compare the prices, but it's not always good to go for a cheapo kit!  :)

    Windscreen fitting

Don't press the screen with fingers! It can crack! Best to fit it with slap hand method, I fit lots at work and this is the best way! And use lubricant on the rubber, I use foam cleaner as it evaporates after, don't use WD40 or the like.
  22. Yes I agree with Ian, spot on. But I personally use 0.8mm wire, (just my preference) therefore I can weld the paper thin stuff and go right up to the thickies!
  23. As said above, just smear the piston seal with a little brake fluid when your fitting the new ones. I agree, don't split the caliper if it's not leaking. Don't know if I should talk to you now your working on an M.G!  :P :P It's good for your experience Wim, don't forget to charge him a drink or two for the work!
