CT Web Site and Forum Next Generation
poppyman replied to Darren Sharp's topic in Website Help and News
As above TSSC forum works really well, as does everyone else's apart from CT. Why not seperate the two? I for one am not interested in the website on daily basis unlike a forum. Make it easy to use and navigate and fit the screen. Let non members use an avatar and post photos. That is a fault on the SOC forum. There is a wealth of knowledge out there that needs to be shared (as this site once did) Make it faster......... Tony. -
Hi Don, Very few people come on this forum now, especially for Dolomites. I would suggest going on the TDC forum as there is a lot of help on there as there was on here. It sounds to me like piston rings? But a chap on TDC "carledo" is the man to speak to. Tony.

Hi Karl, I am glad others think the solex is the best option They dont usually give a lot of problems apart from a bit of poo in the jets. I had not thought of old fuel!! That wont help, if the fuel smells of turps or white spirit it has gone off Cheers, Tony.

Well, that sounds like an air leak Have you checked all the vacuum hoses? It could be the pump........ They are not to expensive to replace. It's very difficult to tell without being there...... From memory the pump should have a filter when you take the top off. Cheers, Tony.

It is possible, try reving the car until it stops. Then check if you have fuel in the carb...... If not sounds like pump? Have you checked if the pump is full of crap? and any fuel filters if fitted? Also was it running ok prior to this? Or have you just got the car? Cheers, Tony.

Hi Karl, First of all i would ditch the stromberg Get the solex stripped and clean out all the jets and passages with an airline. Then fit it back on making sure the accelerater pump jet is working. It is unlikely that two carbs will give the same problem. Cheers, Tony.

Yes but only lightly, and only use copperslip. And dont forget the spigot bearing in the crank

Its a cheap enough charger So who cares. It does the job........ So what if its got a silly name..... Its got to be called something

Ahh well, i dont know who told him? But he did spend a lot of money on asprin And he was a tight old bugger!!! He would look under his bed every morning to see if he had lost any sleep!! I was also wise to wind up's, as my uncle warned me about them before i started. Still, it's not done any harm to my batteries 😉 Maybe the battery makers dont endorse it because it works? Who knows? Cheers, Tony.
-
Re batteries, my gaffer when i was an apprentice insisted i put an a couple of "asprin" in each cell . I have always done this and have got to say i very rarely have to buy a new battery But i also keep them all well charged Any scientific reason for this?? Others that do it say the same, also back in the 70's you could buy a product called "battaid". Cheers, Tony.

Joking apart I have used the c-tech charger which is brilliant, and it comes with a kit to just plug in as well as croc clips
-
That would be plain silly You would need a solar powered torch to find it

If the starter runs the wrong way? it might be off an early fwd with the exposed ring gear? That runs the wrong way

This company will also recondition almost any starter, dynamo or alternator I used them all the time when i had my garage. I also went to school with one of the directors. A very good company to use Cheers, Tony.

You will find TDC is when the keyway for the crank sprocket is vertical

If you could post a pic of the starter showing the bendix, it would give us a better idea as to the main culprit Cheers, Tony.
-
You also dont have to replace the starter. You can just fit a new bendix, much cheaper than a complete starter and are available on "fleabay" around £8. Cheers, Tony.
