    Door Seals.

I did the estate ones whilst in plaster pete, not an easy job, but doable still. I wouldn't use silicon to ease them in with though! I don't need to tell you the effect it has if you want to do any painting in the future. Colin
  2. I have a generic, small, two tonne trolley jack that I keep in whichever car we are using at the time. This also goes on the RBRR with us along with a single axle stand. I don't like or trust scissor jacks even for a wheel change, but obviously I don't have the same space constraints in a big saloon. Colin

    water pump

Similar story here Matt, same pump from the brothers been on the estate for over 40k miles, 2 RBRRs etc. Colin.

  5. The pies were certainly MIA by the time we got there and there were still a fair amount of crews still to arrive! Colin
  6. FloydP wrote:I think the time would be gained by "knocking of some of the Sunday route" as Colin says in his post. Which you would need to do to keep the 2000miles in 48hrs. Colin

FYI recommended tyre pressures for my Michelins on the daily driver are 36PSI and there not low profile. 27 PSI equates to grossly under-inflated and will lead to elevated sidewall temperatures, uneven wear and reduced life (maybe yours if the tyre fails dramatically) FWIW mate cheers Rod But what is your daily driver? I don't think you can suggest that just because one car has these pressures that so should a 2000. Colin.

I'll be thoroughly checking it out and taking it to 60 thou overbore to start, if the block and crank stand up to scrutiny that is at the engineers who rebuilt my last motor.  Which is still performing after much abuse. The gearbox is an A type manual non overdrive, so not sure what to do with it but I'm sure it'll come in useful for something. I tend to run J type overdrive. Does the prop length change from manual non to manual o/d or does the gearbox extension take care of the difference? Props are the same for all manuals whether o/d or not  ;) Colin
  9. thescrapman wrote: You could start at say 2pm, and go into East Anglia, and out again, planning arrival at Blythe at usual time, then knock off some of the Sunday route, to get an eta at the Plough at about 3pm Sunday. I reckon you could easily get to the most easterly point of the UK without any issues. Also get in some cracking roads across The Brecks and the Fens. Just a thought And a very good thought Colin, gets my vote.

FloydP wrote:It seems the m40 got worse the later it got, we left didcot at 5:09 went up the a329 to the m40 which was stop start but we got to the plough at 6:56 so an hour and three quarters which seems to be a bit quicker than a lot of people managed. I wonder if the event was brought forward a bit so the finish time was earlier that way we might beat some of the traffic might help with the a10 roundabout on the way out of the plough to. Floyd. Starting earlier than 6 on the Friday would have my vote. But this would I'm guessing have a knock on effect with timings for other stops, especially JOG where we would be arriving the same amount earlier for breakfast. Colin
  11. tim_hunt wrote: Maybe the answer is to start and finish the RBR  somewhere else. Tim I know the history behind using the Plough, but getting back to it and leaving it on the Friday night are not getting any easier. My vote would be to get as far away as possible from the M25. Colin.
  12. Unlike Steve we had a great reception at JOG (although I did witness his team's invisibility!), the breakfast was great with cereal, juice and waitress service for food and tea. LE by contrast was v v poor. They are a bigger establishment with probably slightly less people to cater for than JOG and yet you have to queue for half an hour for at best a dissappointment. No cereal or juice either. I wish I had thought of the McD alternative at the time, and they have toilets. BTW this is in no way a swipe at the CT organisers, the LE hotel have the facilities to make it work, they just haven't imho. Colin
  13. We followed it a way to Bude and into Dartmoor, it rolls a little going in to bends......but it came out the otherside. Obviuosly not designed for the RBRR but still managed it. Big effort and just rewards in making it round, well done from teams 78 and 80. Colin
  14. I'm sure Derek Furnell fitted a ford based one from Burton power products with very little mods and cheap too. Colin
  15. I spotted a couple, including that, which just goes to show the importance of going through it yourself and plotting it on your own map (IMHO). Imagine trying to fathom that one out at 02:00hrs on sunday morning, because you didn't see the point of going through the book beforehand ??) Great job on the book as always , Nigel, Jason et all. Colin
  16. On our first RBRR, we lost time due to my son being very ill (in the car), we had to use the satnav to make a time slot in scotland and totally missed the glencoe section. It kept us on time but of all the places to have to miss! Colin.
  17. I had similar with the pi, until one day it wouldn't clear. I took the tank out and found the remains of a fuel can rubber seal stuck in the outlet pipe that bolts into the bottom of the tank. It must have been fine until the level in the tank got low or demand got high then it got sucked back in. Needed twezers to pull it out, the Lucas pump had done it's best to pull it through the line. Colin.
  18. This time next week team 78 will be on the way down to the plough, only a few bits to sort now, marking up the map and roadbook done today so that's one huge thing off the list. Colin

    Cam lobes

My first thought would be yes Dave. The top picture looks like the hardening has worn through. Just my opinion obviously, but I wouldn't be happy using it again. What are the followers like? Colin.

    oil stop leak?

I haven't done a compression check since, perhaps I will before the RBRR whilst fettling other stuff. I haven't used enough oil in over 2000miles since the work, for it to show on the dipstick though ;) Colin.

    oil stop leak?

Have a look back to around June time on my blog. I honed and re-rung my Pi at around 157k miles on standard bores. Worked very well and I couldn't be happier with the results. Colin.
  22. [quote=david_langrick) Firstly , I did not read this thread until last night - after I got back from Gaydon so my apologies to all but especially Colin , Elaine and Linsey - for my apparent ignorance in not thanking you yesterday. [/quote] Didn't think that at all Dave, just wanted to highlight to anyone who wanted to read it, what a great idea it was to ring the new drivers and how well the call had been received by one of those new drivers. An inspired idea and worth doing again in my opinion. Colin.
  23. Craig_Bennett wrote:Yes that is the worry as to any other bodges on the car!! We had virtually decided yesterday to use the Stag and see how far we could get with the roof down!! Having just bought the Stag and not knowing the history (pile of garage receipts though) I am now thinking maybe the Pi is a safer bet. Although not used for a while I do know the car and work done as have owned it for over 7 years. Decisions! Decisions! Pi all the way Craig, but I suppose I am biased. You still have a week or so to run that engine in. Pop up to ours one evening with chatters and bradders, thats just over 200miles done on the engine. Hope the MOT went well btw. Colin
