    Hub puller

Or like I did Find a bloke with a big lathe and scrap bits of big steel give him an axle and beer. One hub pulling tool made for the price of dozen beer. It does help if he works for a big company. Adrian

    Seats again

Thanks for the quick replies guys It might be a wee while before I go down this path Encom as my car is still a bit unfinished. Funnily it was while rebuiding my reasonably heavy Range Rover seats over New Year that I thought of BMW seats for the Vitesse. The seats in my RR are BMW full electric and look huge in the car but once stripped down of the extras are a reasonable size, Having owned a E36 318Ti I recalled that they are reasonably comfortable and a quick search of Trademe last night bought up a few options. Seats again

I know this topic gets raised every now and then so here is my version. Here in NZ Bmw seats are cheap and available. Has anyone tried to fit BMW E36 or E46 two door front seats to a Herald/Vitesse. I have found BMW seats to be reasonably comfortable. Adrian
  5. Will also need to fit the rear plate from the GT6 to the 2.5 engine to bolt the GT6 gearbox too. The saloon engines are canted over and I think use different bolt spacings. You will see how much by looking at the side slope on the base of the sump. Adrian
  6. Wahey I picked up a bonnet hoop and a very good nick boot lid. The previous owner of these parts had a few Heralds and  bits and a very very early Herald Coupe. Had to go for an 8 hour round trip to get them but I am now a happy chappy. I forgot how small the parts of these cars are. I had the roof rack on the Rangie but didnt need it as they all fitted into the boot neatly. Adrian
  7. For my BMW motorbike over winter  I had a trickle charger on a weekly timer that I set to come for 6 hours one day a week. It kept the battery charged. I upgraded to a solar panel and boiled a motorbike battery dry as it did not have regulator on the panel. This may net be a problem on a car battery as it is generally a lot larger. Adrian
  8. Hi have a look here This isnt exactly what you are asking but does cover the issue http://www.tr7.co.uk/tr7-wheels.html And if you cant be bothered here it is The wheels have a PCD of 95.25mm (old imperial 3 3/4 inch PCD) originally designed for a 13" rim, although the PCD's are the same the offsets will vary. Rover 100 4 x 95.25 Rover 114 4 x 95.25 Rover 214 4 x 95.25 Rover 220 4 x 95.25 Rover 416 4 x 95.25 Rover 420 4 x 95.25 Austin/MG Maestro 4 x 95.25 Austin/MG Montego 4 x 95.25 Triumph Acclaim 4 x 95.25 Triumph TR 6, 7 4 x 95.25 Triumph Spitfire 4 x 95.25 Triumph GT6 4 x 95.25 Triumph Herald 4 x 95.25 Triumph Vitesse 4 x 95.25 Triumph Dolomite 4 x 95.25 (not the Sprint apparently) MG TF 4 x 95.25 MGF 4 x 95.25 Some early Lotus's with BL running gear (MGF based Elise) The following info is from Beans (well known forum member and blogger) - link to his blog here The PCD and centre bore on MGF wheels is the same as TR7. ET/offset isn't. ET for TR7 is 25mm, for the MGF it's 30-36mm depending on the model. So the MGF wheel will narrow your track slightly by 10-22mm. And yes MGF wheels are used on TR7's. From the TR Register Site - link here Q: What after market Alloy wheels will fit my TR7/8? A: There are a number of considerations. The Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD), which is the distance between the centres of the opposite studs (on a 4-stud wheel), must be 95.25mm (3.75") for the wheels to fit onto the studs. The offset (usually marked on the wheel as "ET") is 25mm for TR7 wheels. It is possible to fit wheels with a smaller offset but spacers may be required (e.g. MGF wheels which have an ET20 offset). Montego/Maestro alloy wheels will also fit. The wheels are located on the centre hub, and NOT by the wheel nuts. Hence the diameter of the centre hole is also important. Many replacement wheel manufacturers can use an adapter to vary the diameter of the locating hole. Diameter: 14", 15", 16" and 17" diameter wheels can fitted (although standard TR7 alloys are only 13"). Width: 6" or 6.5" wheels are often fitted, but there can be wheel arch clearance problems with 7" ones Though I would be a bit dubious about the Triumph Acclaim Adrian
  9. Good evening guys. Several years ago the painter I had doing my car lost the bonnet bracing hoop but naturally claimed no knowledge and has since sold the business. The only joy from this is had only paid him 1/2 the bill. I popped over to my sons house to have a look at my spares but only have a complete bonnet on the Mk2 Convertible and no hoop in the spare bonnet. So is the Herald 13/60 hoop compatible with a Vitesse, I think it is but is a 1200 bonnet hoop the same. You can all place a definite bet that I need a bonnet bracing hoop so do any of you in New Zealand know of any spare in the country. I think I will have to take a whole bonnet and scrap it for the part. Adrian

Hi Nick Does Australia Post have a similar service as NZ Post Youshop, Basically it is a drop shipping service in the UK and USA run by NZ Post. Handy for vendors that will not ship overseas. Rates are reasonable though posting out of the States takes forever. I believe it is linked to Singapore Post. Adrian
  11. And if you are lucky enough to live in a part of the world that doesnt freeze ;) you do not need antifreeze just an anti corrosion liquid. Unfortunatly modern cars need specific antifreeze otherwise the electronic sensors start to play up and all sortd of other stuff happens. Adrian
  12. This works for Vitesse and GT6 so might also work for thwe Saloons http://sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic/28-high-torque-starter-for-20-litre-vitesse/ Adrian
  13. Hi Nev Have you driven or moved the car with the bonnet on. I am trying to find out if the suspension has had a chance to settle. Did you tighten the suspension when the car is on the ground with weight on it or with the wheels off the ground. The former is always advised. Are the shut lines at the bonnet, bulkhead and doors looking nice and even? Sorry no idea on fitted spring length. Good luck Adrian
  14. I have found the 2.3 and Diesel input shafts that Flipp mentions and yes they are a available but purchase and shipping to NZ might be a bit expensive. Not ruled out yet. But I also came across this http://www.prevanders.net/europa/clutch.html What is to stop us using something like this on our cars? Fortunately I have a lathe and access to steel. Adrian
  15. Thanks for all the info guys. It is as I thought 4 cylinder Ford box for 4 cylinder Triumphs and 6 cylinder Ford box for 6 cylinder Triumphs. Lets forget about the diesels  ;) That is nice and easy to remember. And Flipp that is great news about the 2.3 diesel input shaft. I shall look into this. Adrian
  16. Keep us informed how it goes Flipp. Moving the gearlever isnt a problem Adrian
  17. No There are different input shaft lengths hence my query. Plus i think the 2.8 V6 are stronger and have different ratios. But my question is mainly regarding input shaft length and can a short one be used for a Triumph 6 and if so how. Adrian
  18. What is the definite answer on what Ford Type 9 gearbox will fit a Vitesse/GT6 I have read plenty but there seems to be no certainty. So can a short shaft 2 litre 4 pot Type 9 be fitted to a Triumph 6 if so what needs to be done. Or is it only the V6 Type 9 that can be fitted and if so what needs to be done. This is all assuming it is being fitted with one of the aftermarket Triumph bellhousing to Type 9 gearbox adaptors. Adrian
  19. I think the issue with a wrapped stainless steel exhaust is that the trapped temperature can cause the metal to harden and fracture. I might be wrong though and I am sure others will pop on to correct me if needed. Adrian
  20. A club colleague ran a Mk4 Spitty with a Daimler 2.5 V8 running Nitrous Oxide. It kept a standard rear end but fitted 2000 discs at the front. He was very adept at changing diffs and axles. I was in a car 2 behind when he blew the diff once and we felt it in our car. Adrian

    Flaring rear arches

Sorry to hear about your C##K up but we all make them. Have pou thought about changing the offset of your wheels or replacing them with different offset wheels. MGF for instance or staying with 13 inch 1300 TC ones might fit. Adrian
  22. If you can, wire them up so they only work with the engine running. And make sure you alternator is up to spec. Adrian
  23. I had a pair of very early coupe doors that had a slightly different upper leading edge in front of the quarter light. I tried them on my Vitesse and they definitely had something different about them. Adrian
