    Retracting Seat Belts

Got them in my '76 TC. Just bolted straight in . All mounting points present. Tony.
  2. Getting near winter over here so Spitty parked up . Thought I'd do a bit of tidying, specificly clean up the mess from p/o's spilt brake fluid. When I disconnected the cylinders I think I found why I have so much clutch free travel. Looks like I'll be making new pins and miging the pedal and redrilling.(woot) Tony.

    Carpet shopping

    Just seen  these.  http://www.trademe.co.nz/link.aspx?i=10987&id=589504489&t=sa&s=1846707&c=-203 Tony.
  4. I've used Mini ones in the past, Smiths and the same diameter. Cheap to pick up 2nd hand. Tony.
  5. Why not keep the electric pump and buy a fuel pressure regulator. They're not too expensive. Tony.

    Carpet shopping

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/triumph/auction-588427264.htm I sure they also do the 6's too. They used to list them. Tony.
  7. Bearings I'm afraid. (eek) Tony.
  8. Does anyone really need power steering on a Spitfire (puke) Tony.
  9. Did you replace the O ring on the jet assy. They go hard and leak....don't ask me how I know ! Tony.
  10. I've gone the Pertronix way with both my Triumphs (and the Cortina). No problems whatsoever. The one in the TC has been in place for 5 or 6 years. Was carrying a complete spare dizzy in the boot for a long time. Never needed. Tony.
  11. Wouldn't think so. Suggest a compression test before you take the lid off. Maybe check that thermostat is working too. Take it out, hang it in a cup of boiling water and see if it opens. Tony.

    Crank fan balance

If you reverse the fan won't the airflow be the wrong way around? (joytears) Tony.
  13. Here's what Mr Haynes says. Good luck Tony. Sorry, forgot, you don't have tandem cyls. Try this one !.
  14. Sit the cover on a flat plate or a sheet of glass and make sure it's flat. Stops a lot of oil leaks! When I did my TC had to do a bit of panelbeating to get the cover flat. Tony.
  15. When my S did this a while ago I finally traced it to a faulty gear lever switch which worked all by itself when it felt like it.  :'( Tony.
  16. I tend to agree with Alec, I've had one fitted to my 2500 for years with no pressure problems--I do have a pressure gauge fitted. I made my one also with a very small restrictor in the line. I saw one of Rimmers and decided it needed restricting. Tony.
  17. In my experience it sounds like the coil is breaking down.  Can you lay your hands on another to substitute and see if it solves the problem ? Tony.

    Widest wheels

Like Peter, I wouldn't go too wide. Once bought an HQ Holden with 205's on the front and 215's on the rear. The back end steered the car. Went back to 185's and everything returned to normal. Tony.
  19. That's how I wired up the one's on my Triumphs. Tony.
  20. I've yet to fit it, car's just back from paint repairs and it's pissing down today. I'll do what I did to the Triumphs and what sparky_spit suggests. Run my 1.5ohm coil with ballast resistor. Tony.
  21. I don't think you can blame the battery. Probably your jumper leads caused a spark which ignited the hydrogen on a fully charged battery. Don't use a welding torch around a battery either. Don't ask me how I know that  :B Tony.
  22. Since my electrical theory is a bit suspect I thought I'd ask the experts. About to fit a Pertronix unit to my Cortina. Done this to my Triumphs with no problems but this one states use a 3.0 ohm coil. I thought this coil was for a 12 volt system but the Cortina, like the Triumphs, has a ballast resistor. It also states if a ballast resistor is fitted do not remove it. So do as I have done in the past, use the existing 1.5 ohm coil with the ballast resistor and feed the Pertronix unit with a 12 volt supply or change to a 3 ohm one ? Thanks Tony.
  23. May the Prince of Darkness not be with you. (nerd)(nerd) Tony.
