Hi  I want to change out the oversized minilite wheels and tyres on my 1973 spitfire, but dont seem to be able to pin down the best possible size of wheel and tyre for optimum use. Its a strictly dry weather summer car. Can anyone advise me ?  Thanks Paul M

I'm sure many people can advise and none of them will agree with each other 😛

Personally, I'd go for original steel (oval hole) 13" wheels with original spec 155/80R13 tyres. You may find you need to hunt around a bit for a tyre centre that can get 155/80R13 in a good make, but the better ones will be able to order in if needed. I've also used 165/80 in the past and they're OK - slightly larger so marginally longer geared but not too fat for the steering.

Quoted from thescrapman-

There is a good article in the latest mag about tyres.

I would look for a good set of 4.5 or 5J Spitfire wheels, off Mk4 And 1500. The 5J are from the last of the 1500s.

Many thanks for the information on both posts. Both really helpful
