G8HSV
Whilst refurbishind the door the rear door channel has lost most of the 'fur'. I have removed it from the door cut another strip, drilled the holes in the right place with the intension of using pop rivets to fasten the brackets. However they stick out too farand the glass edge catches causing it to stick when going down. I trued to file the heads down but they still carch in the glass. Are there special rivets/fixing supposed to be used for this.
Paudman
I used ordinary rivets, as long as they went right in tight to the metal outer the glass never caught. There may be flatter ones available, but I never had to look.
Nick Moore
I think countersunk steel rivets will do the trick. I replaced my Herald's channels a couple of years ago and had to shop around a few suppliers to find the best ones.
Nick Jones
I found the problem to be the rivets not pulling down flat as the nose of my rivet gun was to fat to go in the channel. Had to make a nose extension for it so I could push on the rivet head - problem solvedNick
Simoneg
Yes, extend your nose with a bit of metal tubing (old brake pipe?) and stick the rivets into the channel tail first. The heads should bed into the furry inside of the channel. May need a bit of metalwork to make new brackets to fix bottoms of the channels to the door frame as the originals often rust away. Elma fud
What you need to use is brake pad rivets you can still get them they look like thisYou fit them from the inside of the channel then hammer them flat will look like the original and your glass will not catch them ;)Oh and heres a web site :)http://www.rivetsinstock.com/rivets/brake-clutch-rivets.html
