Loads of alternators fit. One off a fiesta, circa 1990 ish will do. As aboce, the lucas ACR ones are original fitment. Also look at landrover etc

this pic shows the "orientation" you want

this is the one you do not (is in mountings, plus it is a multi-vee pulley)

Try to be fussy about what you end up with, I have had poor experiences with even proper Lucas reconditioned units failing very early.
Have a search on ebay close to you for alternators, even older renault/vauxhall/rover/metro etc will go on

Nippon Denso seems to be the way to go.  Cheap new, even cheaper from the scrappers and utterly reliable.

Any idea what cars will liberate something suitable for my white PI - I fried the diodes again down Albany at the weekend.
I would like one like Chris Witor sells but don't like the price  http://www.chriswitor.com/proddetail.php?prod=CW4595

If you go to a parts shop for an ALternator they will sting you for extra money if you dont have an old one.
I use the local scrappys, older mins, most  fiestas, metros, and rovers all have the correct type, take one of an accident damaged car, shouldnt cost more than £15.
