culp
I have a MK3 GT6 1971. I tried adjusting the ignition timing at idle yesterday, and I noticed the timing was wandering. I was setting it to 7 degrees BTDC but it wa wandering by a couple of degrees. Worn distributor? It has a Lucas distributor which is not right for. A GT6 it should be a deco remy I think. tiggrr1
You will always get a few degrees of wander/movement in a distributer system, the more worn any parts are the worse it will get.First thing I would check would be the distributer main shaft for any excess play.there is no way you will stop it moving a couple of degrees here and there.Unless you fit a MegaJolt system (but that is another story all together) ;)
tiggrr1
Oh yeahYour correct in thinking the original would almost certainly be a Delco, possibly a d206 I can't remember the number.I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon. TimW
yep D206 delco as standard but the lucas is much better
rotoflex
Are the marks on the front pulley (harmonic damper) your reference for the timing wandering? It is known that the rubber inside the damper deteriorates, letting the inner part move independently of the outer part, & throwing timing marks out of their correct position. Pete Lewis
also make sure the end of the spring from the vac unit is a neat fit over the post on the moving plate Pete
don cook1
I made a pig's ear out of fitting a Lucas to my GT6, I retained the Delco locking plate, which didn't do the job, mega ignition wander. Not fixed until I fitted the proper locking plate.
rotoflex
Don, don't feel badly about that.My GT6 has had a Lucas distributor since we met in 1975. Two years ago I just couldn't get the clamp to hold, & a friend identified it as a Delco clamp. New (to me & the car) Lucas clamp, & all was better.
