739pete
Hi,I need to replace the oil pressure gauge adaptor on my '78 Spitfire 1500. I cannot see it on Rimmer bros site, any ideas on the part number or where I could get one?
Peterrc
Hi Pete, this is what they supply now. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RX1352I have one like yours in the garage, a bit marked but the threads are good. You can have it as it is only sat in a drawer.Peter
Steve AKA vitessesteve
This might do. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Pressure-Gauge-T-Piece-Adapter-Union-Mini-MG-Austin-/141026226761

739pete
OK, I knew getting the old engine alive again would never be easy, now the new adaptor and oil pressure switch are fitted. The manual says the oil pressure should be around 50, when should it get to this reading, with ignition on, on tick over, or when the engine is warm and driving? AndrewC
My book says pressure should be 50 cold at tickover, 30 when warm at tickover (1000rpm).Andy
Rich_s
think i read somewhere that a warm engine at 2k revs should be about 40psi, cold mine is about 65-70 i think and warm its just under 40, at tickover its down to about 15 i think, main thing is to have constant smooth pressure i think, figures not too important, as long as got some obviously :)
739pete
Thanks, getting about 10 psi within in a minute of starting, and increases upto about 25 when I run it to about 3000 revs. Can't try it on the road as sorn and without bonnet. But as you said, it least I can now see there is pressure.
DougBGT6
My ex ran mine for 40 miles with NO oil pressure. Didn't notice the red light. re-bore, new crank.

nang
Don't place too much reliance on gauge readings. In my experience some are not too accurate. As has been said a constant reading is good.Tony.
Rich_s
first thing i would check is the bypass valve in the side of the engine, i have had problems before with mine sticking open and losing a lot of the pressure, easy enough to take out and make sure it moves freely.rich
DougBGT6
Also, replace the pressure relief spring, Rimmer's do a standard and an uprated. (Don't know in what circumstance you would need the uprated) You can check the effect by putting some washers behind the spring and see if pressure increases. And as regards my Ex that wasn't the incident that led to her exit. More to do with the constant ear ache!
