Paudman
As long as it stays in, you'll have banjaxed the threads if you ever find an original and you'll end up just going for ever bigger self tappers....
daver clasper
Thanksoriginal screw is still in the plate, though mullered head and tight/rusted. Using an alternative earth wire connection though not ideal. Will take plate off and try some heat to remove screw intact if poss, then try and make head good/find another.Self tapper was last resort.Cheers, Dave

daver clasper
Hi, and thanks a lot for your replies.Just a question please. How far from rest to max in normal running, does the points plate move around on vacuum advance please (roughly in mm at the outside edge of points plate, would mean more to me than degrees). Thanks, Dave
RobPearce
According to the book it's about 9 degrees That's in the order of 5mm, I think
daver clasper
Thanks RobThat's about what I have now, the way I have alternatively earthed it so hopefully getting enough advance. The screw not moving with heat and just chewing up more, so live with above for now. There is a hole on the plate, near the screw under the crimping tab for the original earth wire. Don't know what this is for?, but maybe use a self tapper in this?.Cheers, Dave
Jonny-Jimbo
Do you, or a mate have a welder Dave? Could always clean the head up with a wire brush etc and weld a bit of rod or a small bolt onto it which you can then get more leverage on. The heat will help unseize it too.
