Nick Jones
Normal...? No.Typical...? Yes, fairly typical unfortunately.Repairs should involve the hot metal glue gun preferably.Nick
Greeks
Cheers Nick. I wondered if it was an issue with the notoriously poor quality steel in the later models.
iggy
would a bonnet stay on either side of the bonnet help relieve the stess on the mounting points, i know the mercedes cosworth has two bonnet stays compaired to the one stay on the standard 190e models
Greeks
maybe... i was wondering if a gas strut might be worth a go.
nang
As it's not rusty, I'd weld a strip of 3mm (1/8" in my language) over the top and weld the stay bracket to it. Even with a gas strut you're putting pressure on the same bit of steel.Tony.
trumpy
The same thing happened to my car, an early MK2. Pain in the arse! I managed to rivet the backing bracket back in.

Nick Jones
Quoted from piman Hello all, if anyone's interested, a modification for the lazy:-Alec Not just the lazy, almost essential for anyone with a narrow garage I'd say.Graham,You can buy them new..... you can even choose the open/closed length, tension and end fittingshttp://www.aussiegasstrutcompany.com/http://www.gasspring.com.au/CATALOGUE2010.pdfProbably easier to weld up the bracket though.Nick
