RedRooster Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Any ideas where i can get a new 5/8 bore brake master cylinder in ali, the mainstream suppliers just seem to have the plastic versions.ThanksRR
CharlieB Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Canley Classics do alloy ones. GT6 is usually 0.7" (or 0.75" for late models) not 5/8".
Clive Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 GT6??5/8 is herald/spifire sized, GT6 should be 0.70 (late ones were 0.75, think they had a servo??)But I believe the new ones are all plastic, so if you want an all ali one it may take a bit of digging about. Ebay can turn them up, and autojumbles etc. Don't restricy tourself to just Triumph specialists either ;)Bear in mind that any proper old stock item will need a new seal kit fitting before use......actually, a peek on the bay finds this onehttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-TR4-TR4A-BRAND-NEW-BRAKE-MASTER-CYLINDER-/310272376805?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item483dacbfe5

RedRooster Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 On ebay i've found these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350413520364&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123they have the 0.75 bore which Cliftyhanger says is correct for a Mk3 with a servo, however the reservoir size is the same for both, so would the brake one have sufficient capacity?
Gt6s Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 242 wrote:On ebay i've found these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350413520364&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123they have the 0.75 bore which Cliftyhanger says is correct for a Mk3 with a servo, however the reservoir size is the same for both, so would the brake one have sufficient capacity? Those are not Triumph cylinders the reservoir is too small for disc brakes also if using for clutch the reservoir is at the wrong angle.I could sell you a pile of new cylinders the same as that.
CharlieB Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 If you have a servo this might be suitable:http://beta.cbsonline.co.uk/product/0.75_Master_Cylinder_With_Large_Reservoir_MA75ILIf not stick to 0.7" unless you are Mr Universe!
RedRooster Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Just checked, thats a perfect match, so i'll get one from them, nice site too. Thanks CharlieBRR
RedRooster Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 Got the new master cylinder in this afternoon, its an exact copy of the old one apart from the lid is a slightly smaller size so my bleeding kit doesn't fit. Had an interesting conversation with the missus whilst bleeding every thing apart from the brake, bless her dyslexic little feet :-/RR
RedRooster Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 :-/ seems the chef has a headache, so i'm cooking, anyone for a fry up?RR
Paudman Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 One set of copybook unblotting instructions required urgently?
ghr630 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Yep, the nylon and metal caps are not interchangeable.
RedRooster Posted December 12, 2010 Author Posted December 12, 2010 I might spray the cap in ali paint so it doesn't look so modern & stand out like a sore thumb, i did try to build up the MS thread with aluminium tape to get the old cap to fit, but it didn't repeatedly work.RR
