Would be a lot harder to try and do it in situ as the back mounting plate bolts to the rear diff cover ,can't see it being doable without removing the diff but i might be wrong.If you have a leak try making sure the breather is clear first by wiggaling the pin sticking out of it.

I think you'd at the very least need to lower the rear mounting in order to remove it from the diff.  There is stuff all space between the rear mounting / cover and the boot panel.  By coming down a fair way you'd have it on an angle that may make it possible.
The pin mentioned above is sometimes hard to locate due to crud on the diff.
