Hi All

I have owned my spitfire since 1988 after 7 years in storage I am currently getting him back on the road, can anyone suggest some seats from other cars that will fit my Spit, I have bought some MGF seats but just a bit too wide (cant shut the door!)

Look forward to hearing from anyone that can help.

spit 1500 seats should be comfy, if the foams are in good condition. And they will fit!  ;) ;)

Some have fitted mx5 seats, I have also seen other seats fitted from various models, but you may find most of them will need some sort of faffing about with to get to fit well.
especially the runners.

Spit seats are quite narrow.

You could also look at some of the aftermarket seats for the kit car scene? Lots of choice there.

What was wrong with your original ones? Or was the mgf ones already in.
And what are you wanting, more comfort for long journeys etc?

As Shaun says, Spitfire seats are very narrow, and it's hard to find a modern equivalent that will fit without interfering with the soft top. Modern cars (and drivers) are wider! MX5 seats are sometimes fitted, but unless you're quite short, you'll end up looking over the windscreen! Ridgard (http://www.ridgardseats.co.uk) make custom sports seats, so if you really want more modern ones they might be worth contacting. Make sure you're sitting down (ahem) for the price though.

If your Spitfire seats are just tired, then replacement foam, webbing and covers are available from companies like Park Lane (http://www.parklaneclassics.co.uk) and Newton Commercial (http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/home/). If your car didn't have headrests then they can be fitted, or seats with headrests picked up on eBay.

At 5@8 I found the MX5 seats sat me too high. I had even taken an inch out of the seat base foams but still a problem.
Others find them OK though, but can be an expensive experiment. Best to try and find a spitfire with them fitted first.

Otherwise kitcar seats are about the only viable alternative. Even old mini seats are too wide....

I am returning to spitfire seats with rebuilt foams.
