  1. Great job with the website and forum guys. I’ve been viewing it on my phone and the layout is great. Such a vast improvement. Well done
  2. The Vitesse never had a ballast ignition system from the factory. Of course, someone may have modified it but normally people take the ballast system off... Thanks for clarifying Rob as I wasn’t sure about the Vitesse.
  3. On the Spitfire and I think it’s the same for a Vitesse, if you have a ballast ignition system, the ignition feed to the coil goes via the starter solenoid. So if the solenoid is faulty it could interrupt the ignition feed to the coil, hence causing a misfire. I’m not an expert on ignition systems but I hope this helps. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
  4. I had a similar problem with my Spitfire. She would misfire on heavy load and after she was hot wouldn’t restart.  After checking the various items mentioned above including changing the coil a few times it turned out to be a faulty starter solenoid.
  5. I’m doing the event with my son, he’s just passed his test in January and is 17 but will be 18 by the time of the event. I’m planning on just getting temporary cover, as it’s currently too expensive to get him as a full time named driver.  I think it’s important to get the youth driving our cars as they are the next generation to look after them when we get too old to!

  7. How do you enter I can’t find the link. ive been checking this site everyday and noticed it’s open now! but can’t find the entry page?   ive finally been given a pass to do this event and don’t want to miss out!
  8. I’m now locked out for 30 mins too many bad attempts. Arrggghhhhh! At this rate I’ll be on the reserve list!
  9. I can’t seem to log on to new site. Keeps saying bad username or password
  10. I'm in a Spitfire so 2 man crew. We always try and follow the actual route. I always mark the route on a road atlas as well. We use road book when we are both awake but when one is sleeping, the sat nav is useful. As it's a bit tricky/dangerous driving and reading a road book at the same time.
  11. Hi Has anyone managed to program this years RBRR route onto a Sat Nav, including waypoints so one can actually following the intended route rather than go the most direct route to each control stop? Cheers
  12. I've got to agree with comments above, water not red bull. This is my 5th RBRR in a spitfire so a crew of 2. Get as much sleep as possible Friday night and try and get sleep during the late afternoon early evening  on Saturday. Saturday morning the roads are too much fun to sleep.
  13. Great idea Team 87 spares listed. I suggest people print it just before the event. As internet connection can be non existent on parts of the RBRR route 😀
  14. I didn't spot that and I went through the book and highlighted the route on a map as well. I'm worried now! ;-)
  15. I run my spit on 98 unleaded as it works out cheaper. As I get at least 10-15% more mpg and it is always less than 8% more in price.
  16. I think the clutch was replaced about 5-6 years ago. Haven't done huge amount of miles since then. approximately 4k a year if that. I went to Colchester in it last night about 40 mile journey and it juddered in 1st at the end of the journey. Pulled away in 2nd and no juddering. I drove the car this morning to the station. Only the slightest of juddering if anything. Only felt it really because I was looking for it.
  17. When engaging the clutch in 1st gear it really shudders. This only happens when the car is really hot and only in 1st gear. 2nd gear is fine. Has anyone else had similar experience? Is my clutch going or is it something else? It doesn't happen when the car is cold. I'm a little concerned as I'm doing the RBBR in two weeks.
  18. I'd do it with two. You get to drive more of the great roads that the RBRR has to offer. This will be my 5th RBRR with only two people. Admitly it's hard to get 3 people in a Spitfire! Don't miss out on this great event if you can't get a third driver. Good luck
  19. That seems really reasonable. Keep up the great work and posts!
