  1. The Hexham 12 car series is starting again in September, on the 23rd which is a Wednesday night. The route will be on maps 87 & 88, first car starting at 20.31. If anyone is after the regs and entry form let me know and I can send them
  2. I think what they mean about not pass a live through the gearstick is to switch the earth rather than the live
  3. Reading all the possible wiring options, it looks like there is no set way. As long as it goes through the inhibitor switch. I'll have a little play with the gearbox on the floor and a battery
  4. Thanks for all the replies so far. No doubt when I actually come to fit it I'll be back with more questions. I've a feeling I'll be making s modification to the tunnel on the Moss, as I don't think it has a removable cover. But nothing a jigsaw can't cure
  5. I've just aquired a gearbox with overdrive to go in the Moss. I've never had a car with an overdrive and never had anything to do with them before, so these may seem very basic questions to some. I'm guessing you have a positive feed up the gear stick switch, this then goes through the inhibitor switch then to the solenoid? Or does it go through inhibitor switch first? Do you need a higher current for the solenoid via a relay? Now don't laugh at this question, how do you use the overdrive when on the road? I know it's in 3rd or 4th gear. Is it just a case of flicking the switch? Do you lift off the power, press the clutch? Thanks in advancr
  6. The lamp pod on my rally car has both filaments powered at the same time, never had an issue.
  7. Hexham motor club are organising the "Summer Soltice" which is a senic tour and treasure hunt. It is taking place on Sunday 12th July and will cover approx 80 miles. There will be a lunch halt and tour of a private motor muesum then on return a buffet tea. All for the entry fee of £5.
  8. cover the tap with grease and keep taking it back out cleaning it reapply grease and repeat. The grease holds on to the swarf. What we did years ago on the vauxhall astra alloy heads when the spark plug threads weren't the best
  9. Was thinking the single webber as I already have one. Engine wise I was thinking of a little upgrade. Been looking on various websites to get ideas, MK3 cam profile and maybe a littel head work. All depends on how many pennies in the piggy bank or how quickly I want to get it done. (how long until next RBRR 😎 )
  10. In my Moss I have a Spitfire MK4 1300 engine, as some will know it's not to well at the moment. The plan is to get it sorted. The carb that was on it was a single stromberg, which appeared to work ok. Stashed away in my garage I have a pair of 40s, can't remember if webber or dellorto. I've been thinking about fitting one to the Moss when I eventually get the engine back together. What are peoples thoughts?
  11. Well folks, looks like I've cured it. Before my trip to Ireland in it I had a lot of bits and pieces done to it. Fresh carb mounts, various vacum pipes, plugs, leads, cap, points and basically it was running fine. I'd done about 1000 miles before it started playing up. On friday I changed the plugs and checked the cap and rotor arm, hey presto it is running on all four and going well. I'm putting itdown to a dodgy plug. I'd ruled them out originally as they were effectively new, but I had another set so was no harm trying them. Thank you for all the advice

  13. compression test done all just about the same, varied from 145 to 160. I'll have an hour or so tonight on it before my busy motorsport filled weekend
  14. It's just recently had new cap, leads, points, plugs etc. I'll investigate a bit more before looking at pulling the top off. No doubt I'll be back with more questions  ;) 8)
  15. I've been on my hols so not been on here to say thank you for our award, it was totally unexpected. A very nice suprise when I opened the packet. Chris has mentioned next time we try again in the Moss.......
  16. Next Hexham 12 car is teh 29th of April, couple of places left I think if anyone fancies a go. I'll be out marshalling on this one as don't want to risk the TR before I head to Ireland in it
  17. Well I think I'm about sorted for the 2016 event 😎 Anti dive kit to fit, silicone hoses to fit and change the oil and filter. This is of course the TR7 not the Moss
  18. Collected the car from S & S on saturday morning, got home then used it on the Hexham Historic that night. It's running perfectly and a lot smoother and better than it ever has all the time I've had it. Yes all the bits and pieces Steve did I could have managed to do, but it was much easier just to get it sorted.
  19. Thanks so far...... so if I was looking for 2nd hand complete would I be better off looking for single rail or three rail? or just get what is available I realise the prop may need altering depending on which box
  20. Some of you may have seen my various posts about upgrading/repairing the Moss. I'm thinking of fitting an overdrive, the question is do I get an overdrive and fit it to my current gearbox or do I get a 2nd hand complete gearbox with overdrive? Is there any advantage over one gearbox type to the other, single rail vs three rail? The current gerabox is a single rail from a spitfire 1500. Next, obviously there will be wiring to sort out, I'm guessing it is not overly difficult to do. This is not something I'm planning on doing straight away, just looking at the options so I can have an idea of budget. Thanks in advance
  21. thanks for the quick replies. It's something to think about. I could of course pull the current one to bits and rebuild it.
  22. Now this may be a completely silly question. I've been looking on the internet at possible replacement engines for my Moss. It currently has a poorly 1300 fitted. I should say my Moss is Herald based but with a spitfire engine. I've noticed people advertising 1500 engines suitable for Spitfire or Midget. Is this engine a straight fit if it has been in a Midget or are there a load of parts to change over?
  23. Well we finished, not sure on how well we did, don't think we were last though.  Don't think we dropped a massive amount of time, main reason was to slow down when the navigator was being ill 🤔 The next Hexham 12 car is running alongside the Hexham Historic/John Robson event on saturday march 14th, if any ony fancies a good fun night
  24. It's going to be a very very good looking car when it's finished, really like the colour
  25. I've entered the 12 car tonight, we'll see how we get on. Not doing it in a Triumph though, using my trusty Calibra.
