  1. If you can position your lever against the underside of the chassis right hand main rail, then as you try to undo the nut it will force the gearbox downwards against whatever you are using to prop the gearbox up. ( right hand looking from front to rear ). That should do it. Cheers, Dave.
  2. Can you reposition your bar so that it lodges against the chassis rather than the floor?
  3. Mintex 1144 brake pads plus servo, alternator, electronic ignition, Revotec cooling fan, Fuses and relays for all circuits, Quartz halogen headlamps, swing spring conversion (most bits secondhand but new GT6 spring courtesy of Fitchetts), 5J alloy wheels with 165/80 x 13 tyres, MX5 seats, 14" steering wheel, oil pressure gauge, voltmeter, tachometer, heated rear screen, high level led brake light, wiper delay, flick wipe or flick wash wipe facility, hazard warning lights, larger capacity Vitesse fuel tank, 1500 Spitfire flywheel, clutch, gearbox and  overdrive, electric washers, two speed washer switch so have 5 second wiper delay as well, battery in boot with isolator switch, 22" wide radiator for better cooling. At the moment I still have the 1296cc engine fitted but I do have a 1500 Spitfire engine and 3.63 diff awaiting my attention! This is all on my 13/60 saloon. She goes well, she handles well and she stops well. I have no truck with purists; I have to drive in modern traffic... and the 13/60 can surprise some of the smaller moderns... Cheers, Dave.
  4. Vitesse Mk1 and Mk2 Handbrake cables are different lengths. Cheers, Dave.
  5. Contact Steve Morris at Triumph Spitfire Spares, Aka Tavistock Steve. I know that he has a Mk 2 Vitesse chassis for refurb. It's all ok but needs front, mid, side and boot outriggers replacing. The main chassis rails are ok as are the front bits. Cheers, Dave.AMHIK .
  6. I'm confused. What do you mean by "rear shock mounts"?  If you are using a cv conversion then standard Herald / Vitesse 2 litre telescopics will fit directly to the chassis. If you are going to use Rotoflex couplings (are you mad? ), then conversion brackets are available so you can use telescopic dampers. Cheers, Dave.
  7. I like Uniroyal rain tyres. I've had them on my 13/60 for 3 years now and they are excellent, so I've fitted some to my Vitesse rolling chassis/rebuild project. Cheers, Dave.
  8. Lesson 1. Never throw anything away until you have got the correct replacement! You will probably be able to get all the seals. Try Canley Cassics, James Paddock, ANG classic parts, and Rimmer Bros, in that order. Good luck, Dave.

  10. Yes. I got mine for both my 13/60 and Vitesse 2Litre Mk 2 from the TSSC shop. I expect Canley Classics also sell them. Cheers, Dave
  11. The TSSC shop were offering them or something similar a little while ago.
  12. Next time you do it don't use a pointed instrument to depress the internal knob. Try to find something the correct diameter for the hole (small nail head is what I use) . I've found that pointy things slide off the internal knob and don't depress it. Cheers, Dave.
  13. Try a substantial piece of timber underneath the gearbox/rear engine plate. careful positioning means the sump will be clear. Then jack it up, removing the engine mounting bolts as soon as you have got the weight off them. Cheers, Dave.
  14. I believe permissible end float on a Vitesse crankshaft is 6 thou to 14 thou (inches). Mine was 18 thou. No apparent damage and fitting new standard size thrust washers have taken it back to within tolerance. Cheers, Dave.
  15. Interesting, but I got my shims from Canleys. No problem. Cheers, Dave.
  16. I never needed a puller  for the steering wheel. Undo the retaining nut until it's loose but DO NOT REMOVE IT. Using both hands, jar the wheel from underneath until it comes loose. It will fly off and the nut stops it hitting you in the face. AMHIK. Cheers, Dave.
  17. I've done mine with graphite grease because that's what my workshop manual recommends. Cheers, Dave.
  18. Suggest you smear all the spring parts with graphite grease before reassembly. Cheers, Dave.
  19. You could go electric. I'm considering doing so.
  20. What car do you have? "Normal" Herald = 7lb radiator cap. 13/60 = 13lb rad cap.
  21. Try  looking at the Vehicle Wiring Products website. They give guidance on wiring sizes needed. Cheers, Dave.
  22. No you don't remove the pin. The tensioner will come off if you lever the 2 prongs apart and slide it off the pin. Reverse the procedure to fit the new one. Cheers. Dave. Ps. Once you've done it, it's easy.
