NO WAY once you have seen lines of silicone sealant hanging like snotters out of an oil pump strainer it puts you off the stuff. I use nothing more than a smear of grease on both sides of paper gaskets. Done that for years on cars, Trucks, Heavy plant, Fuel tanker delivery pumps, filter blocks and manifolds works on coolants air/fuel, and hydraulics. Bonus IN AN EMERGENCY you can reuse the gasket. Nothing wrong at all with the 16 caliper. Bar the weight. I use them with a vented spacer kit with vented 11 1/4 in Citroen discs. Serious stopping. Laurence

Yeah Jalopy was a superb we magazine missed it when it went off the shelves. Laurence

As Nick has already said. As near to the engine as possible As hot a place as you can find. V8's normally use two sensors but one on one bank will work absolutely fine I ran one on my six off the rear three cylinders only. It will work. Laurence

You do not need to take the mechanical advance into consideration at all as your mapped ignition in most states will always be more advance than the mechanical as the distributor always has to be safe at basically without knowing load. Does not even matter at that as it is only rotor arm position that is relevant. Laurence

My idiot mate has that same set up on his Grinnall under 15's. His face dropped when he saw the size of discs on my EFI Gt6 under the same wheel. Laurence

Actually Markus what I was referring to is that the top bolt of that starter is a pressed in stud necessitating that the starter MUST go in straight NOT POSSIBLE WITH THAT MANIFOLD. Stud requires removing and a slightly shortened bolt fitted from the back. How do I know this ? I have what used to be that same horrible manifold (now somewhat modified) and that same starter. Another point. How do you plan on removing that starter motor ? The way you have it fitted you will need to remove the exhaust manifold to get it off. It can be done but not the way you have it.

I saw a trike some years ago all built from an Alfa Romeo, V6 engine, auto box, rear end and rear suspension. We looked at the tax disc and saw it was tax exempt, The Alfa would have been far too new to be tax exempt. The owners said " Yeah she is a Reliant Robin". Laurence

Yes indeed the LT77 and V8 engine alone fit a Gt6 very nicely. However with the six engine the backplate of the engine sits quite a bit further back than on the Rover this means that the clutch arm protrusion will clear the chassis with the Rover but not the six. Laurence

The weld is the problem here. Seen this happen on swing spring shafts where the dust shield has been tacked on to the shaft. They then snap. It might seem like a good idea but it most certainly is not. Any you see like that, get rid ! Laurence

It will be one of the springs broken. Laurence

You have got me thinking about aluminium back plates now. Seen some at scary money ( Rimmers ) but it appears Jigsaw do them at the right price. May invest. Laurence

Limited funds Jonny Jimbo ! I still have a load of stuff to buy. Full roll cage, fibreglass doors etc. Also not the only car that needs money spending. An aluminium back plate is not a priority Cutting the centre out of the steel one COSTS NOTHING bar a little electricity. Just like punching holes in the chassis and whacking surplus metal costs nothing. Laurence

Decided today I would concentrate on fitting a new head liner to my other Gt6. Got sidetracked a little and measured up the spigot with the spacer ring fitted and now the splines no longer foul with the flywheel and the clutch plate is well engaged on the splines WELL HAPPY. The new spacer ring, I was a little concerned about adding weight as I am putting this car on a diet, trying to shed weight from the chassis up. I have realised now I can trim weight out of the centre of the existing engine plate with the plasma cutter to more than compensate. I was on the phone with a mate last night. His comment was that before I got the plasma cutter I would not have contemplated cutting down engine back plates but I would have found another way. That's true enough, plasma cutter is fun though.
