  1. Fair enough, have no problems with hubs etc. It's the spacers that would concern me along with the taper of the nuts. Are the tapers matching.? Tony.
  2. Sorry, but the whole thing looks dodgy to me. Hate to lose a wheel (or 2 ) at any sort of speed.   Just my cautious opinion. 😇 Tony.
  3. There is a reason, which I've forgotten, why a volt meter is normally fitted with an alternator, not an ammeter. Someone will know.😆 Tony.
  4. If you're going to helecoil them why not keep them standard. You've already fixed the weak bits with the helecoils. Tony.
  5. Just looking back at old posts. Were Acclaim carb parts ever found? Tony.
  6. You think you have problems 🙂 I drive Transit vans (LH indicators) and Hino and Mitsubishi buses (RH indicators) My own cars Triumph (RH) and BMW (LH). To make it worse my car club has a fine...an ice cream...if we are noticed indicating with our wipers 😆 Tony.
  7. My advice (fwiw) is remember that it's  a 40 year old car. Enjoy it for what it is. Don't try to update it too much. There all sorts of mods that you can do, but I'd settle for good brakes, lights etc and get out and enjoy it. 😆 Tony.
  8. Don't confuse yourself mate. If you only took the dizzy out to prime the oil pump you shouldn't have disturbed anything else. Try not to look for other problems that aren't relevant. Good luck  Tony.
  9. The clamp should be flat. Can you straighten it so that it sits flat? The distributor should then engage with the shaft. Are you aware that the slot in the shaft is offset and will only go in one way ? Tony
  10. Assuming a J type, my book also shows no rivets but a complete assembly. Rimmers list them as being available. Tony.
  11. I'm afraid I had to use a pin punch to get mine started. Cleaned the holes up afterwards. Are you sure some butcher hasn't gone round the outside and peened the edges with a punch. good luck, I ended buying a book off ebay to see what I was doing. It's working well now though. Tony.
  12. Not luck, just old age 😆 Not too bad to replace although you'll need to disconnect  the u/j securing bolt and pull the column up enough to replace the bush. Getting the splines lined up is the hardest job to do if you're working on your own. I've done a couple though without any major drama. Tony.
  13. My bit of chain and a chain block has done the trick for me several times, mostly Triumph 2500's,but  including a Hillman Hunter motor and auto box attached. I did however make up a frame out of RHS which is bolted to the floor and is removable (my shed is fairly small) Tony.
  14. And while you're at it, I'd consider removing the frost plugs and giving the cooling system a good clean out. Again easily done with motor out. Frost plugs are cheap. 😲 Tony.
  15. I don't suppose that you have too much oil in it. Tony.
  16. Is the gearbox breather clear? Tony.
  17. Do the job once and do it properly. Get the right tool. 😫 Tony.
  18. Sorry Danny, you fitted an oil COOLER.....what did you expect it to do ?  Originally the Triumph engineers seemed to have got most things right. My cars seem to work reasonably OK as they are without fitting extra bits. Spin on filters and electronic ignition along with modern oils seem to do the job for me. I don't race them though which may be a different ball game. 😖 Tony.
  19. What is often not known, when the S was fitted with arb's as standard  it was fitted with softer springs. I found this out when I bought one with a sick body years ago. Been in an accident  and one front strut had been replaced with a standard one actually marked as "Triumph 2500" It handled strangely. I fitted the arb to my 2500. I checked part numbers and found arb and non arb spring numbers different. Found a couple of S springs. ARB is still on the car and in my opinion makes a big difference in handling. Just my thoughts. Tony.
  20. Can you try a different gauge?  It's possible that a restriction in the gauge itself can slow the pressure build up.  Tony.
  21. Can you not drill and  retap your existing wheel nuts M12. ? Probably best done in a lathe. Tony.
  22. I did my 2500 years ago. Did the lot, relays and fuses, also heavier wiring from relays to lights. Not too expensive to do and I have the best lights of all my cars, including BMW,s. Also ran heavier earths. 🙂 No voltage drops now. Tony.

    Electric fan

New viscous couplings are available from Rimmers . I replaced my noisy one last year and all is well. Tony.
  24. Try bleeding it first. A bit of air can make a big difference. 😆 Tony.
  25. All my cars love 98. Over here though its only available from BP. By the way price increases are going at the moment I'll only able to afford electric soon.  Tony.
