  1. If you really are considering removing the body you'll need to think about reinforcing the door openings and other bits to prevent the whole lot collapsing in a pile at your feet. Sorry if I sound negative but you're opening the door for a lot of grief. Have you thought about trying to find another body. Good luck with whatever you do. Tony.
  2. From my observation, go Canley's and to hell with the expense, and sleep well at night. 😳 Tony.
  3. Paint your floor any colour you like...as long as its black 🤓 Tony.
  4. You'll need to be sure that the bore in carb body is not worn oval or you will need to get that bushed also. Tony
  5. Next time fix a draw wire to the aerial wire before  you take it out ! you can then pull the aerial out , fix the new one on and pull it back into the car. Now you must poke a wire through the firewall and pull the whole thing back into the car  that way. Not as hard as it seems. I can do it in 5 minutes. Good luck. Tony.
  6. If you're not too worried about originality you could always fit an electric pump and probably fix your problems. 😐 Tony.
  7. If your're not too worried about originality you could do what I did. Got sick of trying to find ignition switch in the dark. I stripped out the lock/switch from the steering column and put a key start switch in the dash. Not too difficult to extend the wires a bit. Tony.
  8. To be sure,, best check the crankshaft for ovality. If the shaft is within specs and the shells look ok with no obvious scores  it should be good to go. Tony.
  9. Sorry,I erred😆 Battery looks like it's been there a while. Just realised it has no battery. How is the coil wired? Tony.
  10. Assuming the battery is connected as you found it. That should tell you. generator is normally + ve earth. Tony.
  11. Try some graphite powder on the runners/guides between the glass and felts. You don't want grease or oil here, it will only pick up dust. Try this first before going inside. Tony.
  12. I see you have an alternator,so most probably negative earth. Tony.
  13. Tend to agree with Glang, It's obvious that ignition is working as is fuel pump. Check that choke 's are working as they should .Are they connected? Good luck. Tony.
  14. Leave the covers off so you can see what's going on 🤓 Tony .
  15. You lucky people😍 Most of our tyres in New Zealand are sourced from China. Triangle, and other similar names. They look good and are cheap but Michelins they're not. Tony.
  16. Yes, definately a fit and forget job. IMO really worthwhile. Tony.
  17. A look at the so called "improved systems" make me a bit wary. If your present unit is ok why change it ? Fitted a  Pertronix unit to my Delco dizzy in my Mk4. Worked well. 🤓 Tony.
  18. Two long bolts, one each side of the bell housing will help if you're working alone. lets you get it roughly lined up and the rest can be done by eyecrometer. Tony.
  19. Clean up the commutator and lube the shaft ! Tony.
  20. Did you have the timing chain and associated bits off during the rebuild ? Possibly this may be back in the wrong place. I'd think it's more timing than carbs. Good luck. Tony.
  21. No disrespect intended but quite happy to rebuild engines and even  overdrives but I think I would give my gearbox to a specialist, which I did with my 2500TC. Tony.
  22. I had a similar problem with my S when I rebuilt the engine. After going through everything I finally swapped distributors with another that I had. Both had Pertronix units which I believe are the same as Accuspark. This cured my problem. Tony.
  23. Slight thread drift here but :- In the '70's I lived and worked in the snow country in New Zealand. Back then anti freeze was uncommon apart those of us who were subject to freezing temperatures and was more  expensive than at present. I think it started off with Landrovers, you could buy a kit consisting of a water overflow bottle, clamps and a washer that fitted between the radiator and the cap. This was necessary to keep the vacuum in the radiator so the water (coolant) would suck back into the radiator from the overflow bottle when things cooled down. Being Landrover these kits were quite expensive so we ended up making our from cordial bottles and larger ones for the likes of RL Bedfords and other trucks. The important bit was the rubber washer. Without it no vacuum in the radiator and coolant was not sucked back up. This was a most successful project. All the locals vehicles were so fitted, radiators stayed full.eliminating air in the system and no loss of antifreeze. Now seems to be a standard set up in modern cars.

    Oily spark plug..

I would guess rings as the compression has gone up. I've been known to be wrong before. 😃 Tony.
  25. If you're going to go to this trouble you MUST take the block out so that everything can be cleaned and checked properly. Otherwise you're wasting your time. I successfully did an S motor with rings and bearings and a shaft grind a couple of years ago. With accurate measurement and a bit of experience I honed the bores with an old borrowed hone, removed and fitted new frost plugs after cleaning all water passages. With no visible wear at the top of the cylinders I thought it was worth a go. Just make sure everything is clean, then clean it again. All of the above worked for me. I then ran it for a couple hundred k's with a couple of oil changes with cheap oil to make sure I'd got all the contamination out. I'm not a mechanic but an old, retired, fitter and turner who remembers what my old boss taught me 👴 Tony.
