  1. I just found a pic of one fitted to a Spitfire on NZ Trademe. I'm unable to copy and paste it to this site though. Why have 'improvements' made things more difficult. Can't even seem able to upload a pic grrrr. Sorry for the rant but this sort of thing makes me a bit angry. Tony.
  2. I'd do all your mods first before getting a wheel alignment. Tony.
  3. I'll get my coat ready.......What you need is some S.U.'s (eek)(eek) Tony.
  4. I'm not sure if tandem brakes will improve things, To me it only means that you will still have brakes front or rear if part of the system fails. NZ and Aussie Mk2  2500 cars had these as standard. Tony.
  5. I'd leave it on all the time when car is not being used. Not wait until the battery goes flat. 😀 Tony.
  6. I have 3 trickle chargers complete with alligator clips . They stay on my cars when not being used. I'm looking for a fitting so that I can plug the charger into a cigarette lighter socket. There's a socket close to the battery on my 525i . Tony.
  7. Put the electric fan in front of the radiator. That's were the Aussie and NZ S's were fitted. Tony.
  8. Must agree with Ted. Over the years I've always used grease on copper gaskets as did my father before me. Never had any problems. Tony.

    temp control again

You've got to ask yourself, why did our cars work well 40 years ago and give trouble today ? Rubbish replacement parts ? Tony.
  10. FWIW  Hillman Hunter's and Mini's  had a straight nylon pipe. Never knew one to break or leak. Tony.

    New Overdrive.

Many thanks Nick, I'll keep the forum informed as to what I find......I've really got to fix this bloody thing (huh) Tony.

    New Overdrive.

Sorry, didn't mention I've been into the solenoid, replaced all the O rings ,even the inside ones, and even replaced it with no improvement. Tony.

    New Overdrive.

I'm going to have to go inside...It's not electrical as most of my previous prpbs have been. This afternoon I ran a live  feed through a switch to the solenoid. Could hear the solenoid going click but nothing else happened on the road. I've had the 3 plugs under the sump out and replaced most things. An "expert" has already been through the gearbox and o/d. Gearbox is fine, just the bloody overdrive. Can I get it off the o/d off the 'box in place, and more importantly get it back? It's a J type. Thanks Tony.

    New Overdrive.

I'm sick of trying to get my o/d fixed over here. I know it won't be cheap but is there anywhere that I can get a good or recon J type overdrive from UK. Everyone seems to want an exchange unit, Fair enough, I can see why, but the cost of sending my old one over would make the whole exercise impossible. Triumph 2500. Thanks. Tony.
  16. If you can easily take it off and give it a good clean up you could solder it with a hot iron. As you say there is no pressure on that part. Tony.

    Early seat belts

Yes, I had them on my Mk4. Tony.
  18. Pete, I managed to get suitable O rings for the inner bits and yes the thing rattles ! I'm waiting for a new filter to arrive before I go into the pump plug. Present filter was full of that looks like clutch lining bits and yes, the o/d was rebuilt recently. Although I've cleaned the filter the best I can, I'm still not sure it's enough as the gauze is quite fine.
  19. I now convinced my problem is not electrical, I've stripped the solenoid (J type) cleaned it up and replaced the O rings. I'm sure that it's working as intended and my problem is hydraulic. I'll see if the new filter improves things. At the moment it changes normally for the first 5 minutes or so and then stops working. Tony.
  20. Don't know... have trouble with my TC not engaging . Recent gearbox and o/d overhaul. Will engage when cold but that's about it.After 2 or 3 km''s gives up. Sure it's not electrics, checked everything out. Replaced the relief valve assy with no improvement. This morning I thought I'd found the problem. Removed the pressure filter, plug was loose and filter was full of crap. Cleaned it out best I could. Better but still not right. Ordered a new filter from Rimmers. We'll see what happens. Costing more on oil than anything else. (huh) Tony.

    Low Compression

Engine Re conditioner told me several years ago when I queried getting my S's head done, don't be worried about a bit of play, it helps upper cylinder lubrication. I didn't and have had no drama's. 😎 Tony.

    Oil Pump

I note you replaced bearing shells but did you have the crankshaft measured ? If the shaft is worn oval the oil pump won't help increase oil pressure. Sorry. Tony.

    Rocker Shaft

Should the pin not just punch out ? Tony.
  25. Make sure the seal running surfaces are not scored . you may need to replace this as well as the seal. Tony.
