Wolverine27
Hi allI made a rookie mistake today, by removing the battery to rust proof and respray the battery box, as once I finished I put the battery in the wrong way round. Hence a small bit of smoke came from the alternator (ouch) I immediately realised, and when I put it in the right way, the car wouldn't start, any tips on which fuse to replace as I am awful at electronics thanks
JohnD
Wolfie,Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your alternator is toast. And burnt toast at that.As a result, no current flowing in the ignition circuit and so it won't start.New or reconditioned alternator needed.John

Spider
Cheaper to replace complete rather than try and repair and get it wrong.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-TYPE-16ACR-ALTERNATOR-MGB-LAND-ROVER-TRIUMPH-MORRIS-JAGUAR-AUSTIN-HILLMAN-/310455294890?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item484893dbaahttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REPAIR-KIT-for-Lucas-15ACR-16ACR-18ACR-alternator-bearings-regulator-rectifier-/300792565797?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4608a25025Could just replace the bridge rectifier and hope you have not melted the insulation on the windings.http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=lucas+16acr+alternator&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=lucas+15acr+alternator&_sacat=
