Anthony
I’m planning on fitting a plastic gearbox tunnel at the weekend. I’ve got a seal kit complete with fixings....but the kit came with three different seals. Can someone shed some light on which one(s) I’m meant to be using? (I’ve also got what appears to be more fixings than is needed)
RobPearce
How many fixings do you have? From memory, I think there should be 13 or 15. The seal needs to run all the way round and probably comes in three or four sections.
Anthony
I have the following fixings.... 8x Keyhole locators 8x self tapping screws 8x spire clips 2x long screws 2x penny washers 4x self tapping screws and washers 4x spire clips 10x self tapping screws and washers 11x spire clips I have three different types of seal each with a different profile. Two of the seals are large enough to run all the way around the gearbox tunnel on their own. One of the large seals has an adhesive backing to it and resembles the seal on the original gearbox tunnel. I have no clue what the 'extra' fixings are for, or how the other seals are to be used. Clive
Is this a cover with the return on the edges? Heard that the return means sealing can be tricky. I think some have used a thicker foam seal to good effect, but I would be contacting the supplier for fitting instructions...
Anthony
Yep, there’s a lip/return running around the entire edge.
glang
I recommend a trial installation with no seal to start with just to see what size of gap you have all the way round. The biggest problem comes if the angle between the floor pan and bulkhead doesnt agree with that of the horizontal to vertical faces of the cover.....
