It has come to my notice that for a variety of reasons some entrants no longer have their instructions and information, so I am posting a copy of the information sent by email last week.

Coast to Coast Run for Drive it Day 21/22 April 2018

Run Information and Instructions

Dear Entrant

Print this and bring it with you

Here is the information and instructions for the Club Triumph Coast to Coast Run for Drive it Day.  Before the start you will also receive an Entrant’s Pack and The Event Briefing.  This should be all the information that you need to complete the event safely. You will need to plan your route in advance from the information contained here.

The Coast to Coast Run for Drive it Day is an endurance driving event for members of Club Triumph, driving Standard Triumph Cars or derivatives made from major Triumph components to be held between Angelsey Circuit, Ty Croes, Anglesey, Wales, LL63 5TF and The Beach Cafe, Southwold Pier, North Parade, Southwold, Suffolk IP18 6BN during the night of Saturday / Sunday 21 / 22 April 2018.

Preparation

The advised route is 436 miles of A & B roads. It passes through Snowdonia, The Delamere Forest, Snake Pass, The Peak District, near Rutland Water and the North Norfolk Coast. It is reasonably demanding driving so your crew and your car need to be in good condition when you arrive at the start. Many entrants will have more than 200 miles to drive to get to the start and some will have at least as many miles to do to get home so be prepared.

Breakdown, Retirement or Emergency

Within your Entrants Pack there will be a list of all the entrants, their model of car and mobile phone numbers. Should you have a problem and need a part, contact entrants with similar models to see if they are able to help. Should you break down and need assistance, pull off the road safely and act in the time honoured CT fashion and raise your bonnet. Passing crews please stop safely to see if you can assist. If you do not need assistance, or are just having a nap, leave the bonnet down.

Should a problem cause your retirement, even before the start, from a safe place briefly text 07707 663402 with your entry number, location, retirement cause and confirmation that you are safe.  If you are not safe or have an emergency, phone the same number.

In the event of a major incident affecting the running of the event such as a road closure the organisers can send out broadcast texts to all registered entrants. This will appear as a text preceded by the word BROADCAST.

In the unlikely circumstance that the event has to be curtailed you will be notified by text as above. Indicate by text your entry number and that you have received the text, stop at a nearby safe place, remove all event branding from your car and continue to your next destination of choice.

Route

The route is contained in the table in the Appendix at the end of this document. It is an advisory route. There is no restriction on navigational aids.  However you navigate it is recommended that you take a current GB Road Atlas with you and have planned and marked the route on your chosen navigational aids and the road atlas. Post Codes of the start, mid-point pause and finish have been provided above.

Arrival at Anglesey Circuit and Signing On

On arrival at Anglesey Circuit you will be asked to park close to the entrance of the circuit.  It will be apparent where you should park, or a marshal will indicate where you should park.  After parking you need to Sign On. It is a requirement of The MSA, Club Triumph and Anglesey Circuit. You will be asked to sign three separate forms and collect your Entrant’s Pack. At the Club Triumph Sign On you will be asked to check that the mobile phone number you have given is correct for the event duration. At the Anglesey Circuit Sign on you will be asked to show the Parade Laps driver’s driving licence, so remember to bring it. The Entrant’s Pack will contain: the entry list and information, meal tickets, event vinyls and any other items that you will need from the Club for the event.

Meal and Briefing at the Circuit

There are reception rooms near to The Circuit Office where we will eat our food and receive the briefing.  A main meal will be served from a mobile catering unit outside the reception rooms.  Your entry covers a straight forward main course. Each car will be given an appropriate number of tickets in your entrant’s pack to exchange at the till as payment.  It does not cover drinks or puddings, these can be purchased by cash if required. You will need to be back in your car by 18:45 so don’t hang around.

So that the meal can be served without delay it will be necessary to order in advance. I will send out a menu for your selection shortly after this information has arrived.

The Briefing will be held while you are eating and will be in two parts: One covering the road part of the event and the other covering the guided laps around the Anglesey Circuit.

The Guided Laps

The event will start with at least two guided laps around the circuit using two of the configurations that the circuit can be arranged into. One will cover the famous “Corkscrew” corner.  Full details of the circuit and how you should drive on it will be covered by one Anglesey Circuits instructors at the briefing. An overview can be found with the following link:  https://www.angleseycircuit.com/

As the guided laps are concluded simultaneously the road event will start, so as you leave the circuit head straight for the exit and onto the A4048 and head toward Hollyhead.

Driving Standards

The event is not a competition and you are subject to all UK Road Traffic Laws. It has been sanctioned under an MSA Touring Assembly Permit. It will therefore be reasonable to assume that as the route has been approved by the MSA we will be observed by MSA Officers.  Please do not bring the club into disrepute by reckless or dangerous driving.

Further, if you have a faster car behind you who obviously wants to overtake, please let them by so as not to encourage a risky overtaking manoeuvre.  Thank you.

Mid Point Halt

We have arranged with the Southbound Service and Tibshelf on the M1 that the event will pause there for refreshment and a stretch at approximately 00:20 on Sunday morning.  It is 212 miles from the start. WH Smith and Mac Donald’s will be open and pleased to serve us.  Fuel will be available.

Arrival at Southwold

As you arrive in Southwold look out for the Stella Peskett Millenium Hall on your left, shortly after you will see North Street to your left, get ready to take Pier Avenue, the next on your left. This will take you to the Pier. At this time of the morning there should be free parking on the right in the street opposite the Pier.  There is also plenty of parking to the left in a public car park.

Breakfast

The Beach Cafe is to the right side of the Pier, near its entrance. It will be obvious.  Breakfast will be served from 8:00. You will have in your Entrant’s Pack appropriate meal tickets for a medium sized breakfast with a tea or a coffee.  Pay by ticket.  If you want an upgrade to large or additional drinks you will need to pay cash for the difference.  Trip Advisor does not rate the cafe too well, but I tried a breakfast there in October and it was perfectly decent.  Have a look at this link:

Good luck to all entrants this weekend.  I was (and I know Mark was too) looking forward to this event but we, and few other Essex crews, were already committed to marshaling on the Corbeau Seats Tendring Stages Road Rally this weekend.

Have a good run all, I hope the weather is kind to you.

Mike
