Raider
Quote:Martin (Raider) will know that the 2 door with Sprint lump was what works drivers were begging Triumph to make to beat the Escorts as they were so close.Absolutely!Chris is going to have a great car with that combination ;)I have been working on BRP by the way, an hour or two over the last two days as seen on my blog

Deleted User
Still definately a Dolly Sprint for me, and I don't think they're ugly as such but certainly understated. It's great fun to smoke a boy racer off the line in his Corsa that's had a few thousand spent on bolt on parts!Get a two door Toledo and Sprint it up! Although I've just noticed that you've already got that planned.
Beans
Quoted from davesideways ... I do feel some unease towards the engine swap ...Definitly, your bhp/weight ratio will be so much better now that there'll be no possibility to beat you with 't Kreng (if there ever was one) ;DMy only hopes for that are on some of the bad road stretches in the Ardennes now ::)Looks like 't Kreng needs to go to the weight watchers ... trackerjack
The early TR3's can be made very fast for track use, but the sad part of it all is that no matter how good you think you are there are other people out there who can sometimes do very stupid things which is why I like a cheap car which sadly early TR's are not.The best track days for me are the open ones with all the loonys in their moderns and every now and then you get a chance to have a go with something special.............like a couple of years ago I spent 6 laps with a classic racing Jag MK2, we kept swopping the lead to try and lose each other GREAT STUFF after we finished the driver came over with a big grin to match mine, he was there teaching Jag drivers how to get the best from their racers and enjoyed our fair duel.I have been lucky to have had only one serious ding on track and that as mentioned was 22 years ago. It actually changed our lives because I went self employed and earnt shed loads of loot bought a new car, a big diamond ring for Diane, a much better house and easily brought up our children financially. We can afford (hope not though) to lose the Sprint as it is no longer my daily driver. If I could afford it I would have many Triumphs as they are all different and have strong characters often like their owners. All I need is a barn to keep em. Deleted User
I suppose I have to throw in my sixpenny worth here?Having driven just about all the different TRs and other Triumphs in various race formats the winner is........."It all depends what you want"Do you want a car that has loads of horsepower, no bottom end torque but evil handling?Do you want a light car that can drive round the inside of the others in the corners, but has just enough power to get to 100mph on a circuit?Do you want a jelly engined ugly beast that understeers like fury, has loads of torque, and drinks fuel??A short travel deperately uncomfortable beast with a fragile engine, a power band 2000rpm wide and a rubber chassis?Triumph produced all these models, with all those endearing defects which is why they are rarely ultimately very quick.I prefer light fast good cornering cars with stunning brakes, because they are ultimately the most impressive to drive, - but then I have/have had 3 or 4 inc my current 1.6T Jag so it shows I don't even follow my own tastes.I personally like the 2.5pi (2.0pi) estate, they are very entertaining but still go ALL OVER the road! But there, I love driving cars on opposite lock.

Raider
4 can't be a GT6 surely?Fragile engine? don't think so. They don't have a rubber chassis do they?
trackerjack
GTEVO just loves to wind up people.2 is definitely a spitty or TR7.3 is a 6 cyl TR but they thay do not have jelly engines but they are not ugly it cannot be a sprint cos they never understeer unless abused.Hang on GTEVO has mixed everything up cos the weak engine is thrust washers on the 6 cyl, jackshaft on the slant 4's. crap chassis is TR6 back to 2 or GT6 or spitty.Hell all these defects mean you have to drive the buggers any idiot can buy a WRX Suburu and look good, only a real driver can look good in a Triumph. I prefer to see these faults as CHARACTER so enjoy track days whatever Triumph you drive, but only a sprint ever won proper races or championships, although the TR7 could have. Raider
2 can't be a TR7 as it is by no means a "light car".I'd go with Spitfire as mystery car number 2 :)

Beans
Quoted from trackerjack ... a V8 seven is the only Triumph that qualifies in all departments as a good track day car. As I started this thread I declare it the winner ... Totaly agree with you ;)Quote:The TR7 V8 from group 44 was a real killer ....For a trackday car that would indeed be very nice, I can't imagine a better looking wedge 8)I WANT ONE !!!! ;D
