Dark art of Overdrives.

Hi Matt,
be careful in saving money on bearings.
The TRiumph specialists don;t always use the best quality and the high street bearing suppliers have a range of bearings/prices.

IE - on a TR diff - from supplier M there is a choice of two bearings for a certain position - one is £15 and the other is £72. There must be a difference in quality there somewhere

Make sure you get what you actually need.

this is the old utopia or compromise problems we all have to make
guess you have to make a balance between costs anticipated mileage
there's little point in spending fortune on a rebuild and only do 500 miles a year

think most of us have fell into the  'you get what you pay for'  trap
and the poor quality of some copies of parts

hers the top ten from ebay  ???

Cant argue most of them are chinese now. The  bearing shop, always nice to chat to real people, did say British is best but the Chinese quality is much improved.  I did show them the main bearing from a gearbox and although fitted with snap rings could get them at 30-40 pound,  most online retailers sell them around 15, I would imagine these must be chinese too.

Well,
I took a trip to these guys the other day http://www.odspares.com/ I must sat fantastic service and price. I learnt they supply most of the Triumph suppliers so you can save money with them.

Any way new pump body, new roller gone in. I showed the nice chap there my planet gear and he advised a bearing kit, and pleased he did all of mine were seized spinning on the shaft , I was going to refit it. He also helped with the planet gear alignment too.  It appears the thin plate on the the planet gear catches rubbish and blocks the feeder holes for the oil in the planet gear. I can see why it would now, the advice was to leave it off, it does no good.

As for removing the pump , a 3/4" male to male connector screws into the base of the OD and a bolt will fit in to the base, think its a 1/2 bolt.
