John Bonnett
During the engine rebuild one thing i want to do is to ditch the 1500 Dolomite starter. This will involve fitting a Spitfire starter ring gear. Now here is the question. Will the Spitfire ring gear fit the Dolomite flywheel or will I need to fit a Spitfire flywheel as well?Thank youJohn
thescrapman
It will fit, but might just be easier to get a Spitfire flywheel.
John Bonnett
Quoted from thescrapman It will fit, but might just be easier to get a Spitfire flywheel. Thank you Colin. I believe a bit of work may have been done on the flywheel so it might save me a bit if the Spitfire ring gear would fit. I do have a 1500 Spit flywheel if necessary though.regardsJohn
Saltddirk
Hi John, What is the difference between dolly and spitfire starter ring?Diameter or teeth? D
RobPearce
Teeth. The Dolly 1500 has a pre-engaged starter with smaller teeth than the Spitfire's Bendix one. I think it's the only one that does, and the 1850's pre-engaged starter has bigger teeth, but don't quote me on that.
John Bonnett
And the inertia ring gear had a chamfered lead in whereas the 1500 Doomite one has square corners..
