  1. Don't know if it works or not, but remember seeing car sos putting a servo on clutch, think it was a stag to make it lighter Cheers Andy
  2. Don't the single carb inlet manifold catch on the 4branch manifold?  Thinking tried fitting one once to a herald with single stromberg and it not fitting Cheers Andy
  3. When I got my present mk1 estate, it had seat belts fitted very similar to that photo, I removed them as didn't like the way they would pull, really need I higher mount, as is will pull down to much Not having children to worry about just fitted a couple of lap belts in back Cheers Andy
  4. I know the tyre fitter I use, refuses to have anything to do with stretched tyres, I just think they look stupid and dangerous Cheers andy
  5. Mgbgt seat will not fit a spitfire, so won't fit a gt6, to wide at bottom. I have a mgbgt and when I was doing so work on it which involved removing the seat, tried it in a spitfire I had in bits at same time, it would involve major surgery to floor pan and tunnel/inner sill just to get it sitting level. The seats in a mgb are very comfy, new foams are also very reasonable priced and if fitted would look more period than Mazda seats Cheers Andy
  6. 4058 wrote: No I agree they won't work on that one, best to sell them to me!  ;) Davemate's car looks really good, like it's been used and abused. Peter crow's is my all time favourite 5 1/2 clad car! I also have a vitesse convertible and mk1 gt6 so if not on my mk3 spitfire because of colour they will go one one of the other cars ;D
  7. I have the same problem. So interested in people's opinion, only thing is my car is going to be metallic blue, so not even sure the 51/2 steels will suit it

    2.5 carbs

I have a pair of hs6 of a tr7 manifold going spare if needed Cheers Andy
  9. I have mgf seats in my mk1 very comfy but a bit of a pain to fit, had rover 600 seats in my mk2 also very comfy. Have driven a mk1 with Alfa seats fitted, found them not to my liking as sat to high but others like them, Cheers Andy
  10. Dave A lot of other boss will fit the splines, The difference being the thickness. You end up with a gap between the boss and the plastic cowl, mk2, stag, mini, tr7 etc early spitfire/ herald are smaller. I found on my mk1, I needed a dished 15" wheel to miss the overdrive and indicator stalk, Cheers Andy
  11. Colin If you can't get to them, I have a 1300 large crank engine minus head going spare,
  12. 1526 As a result nowadays to be honest I would have great difficulty trusting anyone to do it for me, though I am very happy to work with someone who is knowledgeable as I have with Gordon (Townley) with Andy I agree that balancing is not necessarily a prime requirement especially with the six cylinder engine with its inherent balance.  However when highly respected people in the Triumph world with considerable experience of rebuilding engines recommend it because they consider Factory balancing to be a bit marginal who am I to doubt them. If I was building a bog standard unstressed everyday engine would I do it - probably not.  However if I was building an engine where I would be pushing its performance even a little I [u wrote:would [/u] do it.  And with the Mk1 PI engine I would do it as a matter of course simply to rule out a possible source of future failure - finding a long back cross drilled crank is bl**dy hard work  :-/ MUT Hi Ted I'm not criticising any body for doing it, just want to know the benefits and what difference it makes in a road car. Does having it done really make enough difference for what it costs or are you better spending the money on something else Cheers Andy
  13. Now I'm not a mechanic and apart from the basics don't know much about engines, but why are people saying about balancing the bottom end. I know on a 'race' engine and the higher revs it's important, but why on a road car? Is it really worth the extra money when the triumph engine is smooth as is, does it make it quicker, if so how much. Will it last longer? Etc. what are the benefits? Cheers Andy

    Door Seals.

I always fit the seals with the doors on the car, about 20/30 min per door. The original ones are a lot quicker and easier to fit than the new one Cheers Andy

  16. I have loads of them laying about
  17. A lot of years ago I had a set of cosmic alloy on a mk1 vitesse, I also had a mk3 gt6 at the same time, because the gt6 was a rotoflex car the cosmics wouldn't fit on the rear of the gt6, can't really remember why but think it was catching on the rear tie bar, Cheers Andy
  18. Lloyd As you know I have a mk1 estate but don't need anything for that. Also hopefully mk2 pi estate that needs work and know of another 2 mk2's that need work Cheers Andy
  19. Planning on putting the stag on the road for the next one, That gives me a good reason for getting it back on the road but not leave it as late as this year. Only needs complete rebuild and new floors Cheers Andy
  20. timbancroft61 wrote:Oil starvation at rocker gear, middle rockers: no.s 4 to 8 no oil at all, all went blue and extremely hot. Valves not working well, and car sounding like a Ducati Same problem I had in 2010 in the mk1 pi estate, difference was the screw at the end of the rocker shaft came undone, the shaft then turned so no oil to rockers until seized and running on 5 cyl. End of run and recovery back Cheers Andy
  21. The two times I have done the RBRR it's been with a 3 man crew, Was booked to do it again this year again with a 3 man crew, I pulled out a couple of weeks ago, the main reason being that one of the co.driver decided not to do it this year, I know a lot of people do it with a 2 man crew but it always has to be 3 for me, I will also say didn't think car would be ready in time, but it was mot'ed last week and did its first trip out today in over 5 years Cheers Andy
  22. It's in no worse a state than the one I'm doing at moment, it is saveable but think it will be brought for the panels and the rest scrapped Not that many estates left but not that desirable either and would think most people who want an estate could find one, saying that if I had the money would bid on it Cheers Andy
  23. Finally started painting it today(roof), wait for that to harden enough to cover it and hopefully paint the rest of the car early next week. Then it's just a complete overhaul of the mechanic, new interior etc then mot. Sound easy when saying it like that, looks very touch and go if it's going to be ready in time, given myself the drivers meeting as the deadline.  If not ready by then will have to think very hard as to pull out or not Cheers Andy
  24. When I renewed my insurance, I asked about laid up cover for some of my projects. Was told unless it's garaged they couldn't provide cover and to put them on policy as normal Cheers Andy
  25. Raider wrote: Will these pads really fit mk2 2000 calipers? Stag and 2000 use the same pads, Looking at the box my pads came in mgb`s also use the same pads, Have greenstuff on my mg, had them on for about 6 years now, only thing i find is that if you take it steady and use the brake gently the brake lose there bite, It only takes a bit of spirited driving to bring them back Cheers Andy
