I fitted a swing spring to my niece`s herald convertible last year. I had 2 springs laying about 1 had thicker leaves than the other and was told it was off a gt6, so fitted that one without lowering block, It sits level and no lower than a standard herald cheers Andy

thescrapman wrote:Donald It may be easier to cut the front inch or so off the new wings and leave an inch or so of the old wing in place, and then joddle a flange to fit one behind the other. It may also give a better finish if you still have perfect wing tops and flanges in the drain channels to leave them in place and cut the tops off the new wings. Then you are getting towards the repair panels... Cheers Colin Thats how i did the last pair i fitted, Found that to be the easier and neatest way to do it, you do need to have good metal round the edge of the nose cone to do a neat job, Have also glued it to the nosecone before, but not happy doing it that way. Not done it by removing the light panel before but would think its very time consuming getting them out without damage to be able to fit them again, As only taken them out when replacing the nose cones cheers Andy

Hi Lloyd if you get rear arches made up can you do some that aren`t in two parts but all one panel, Also could do with mk2 rear arches, rear light panel, bottom of rear wings where they meet the floors, Another thing i have noticed on these cars is the area under the front wings there is a box section that runs from the `A` post to the edge of the front cut out for the struts a bit like the trumpet panel on a mgb, A rear floor repair panel covering the subframe mount/inner sill area. These are the areas i get asked to repair the most that panels are not available for. Cheers Andy

Not that I've ever lost a core plug from the water in the block freezing and I most certainly didn't discover it was gone after a five mile drive! :B glad i`m not the only one to have done that ;D

don`t forget most primers are porous, so leave paint on for as long as possible and once you have stripped the paint and done repairs, remember where the welding has been done will rust quicker, I would etch as soon as possible and get a couple of rattle can of top coat and spray use that over the etch, That way it will be better protected but will require a little bit more work when you go to paint it Cheers Andy

Ted Would it be worthwhile seeing if repair panels for the frames can be made as the rest of the bonnet is good , it was the same with the bonnet on the pi just the box section rotted out, That 2 perfectly useable bonnets scrapped for the same reason and sure would of as well, Did you try fitchets? cheers Andy

You don`t need them The only purpose of them is to stop you over tightening the bolt and then squeezing the clamp at the top, totally cosmetic to make the spring neater, The only purpose of the clamp is to stop the leaves twisting, some manufactures use to knock the top of the clamps over other like triumph a bolt and collar and some just up to the top of the main leaf cheers Andy
