  1. Likewise, my grandfather owned my Herald from new, I remember going with him to the showroom to take delivery back in 1965.  These are charming cars, but being one of the earliest 1200s yours is particularly special especially as it retains many early features.  Meanwhile, here's mine..... Mark
  2. Might be wrong but I thought by '61 they all had the aperture..... M.
  3. What makes you think that it is a replacement?  Looks like it might need one though, also the edges of the bonnet where it meeds the "D" plates looks a bit suspect.   Mark
  4. That indeed seems to be a very early 1200 (July 1961 registered) so must be among the oldest survivors.  I spy pear shaped black gear knob, white door handle and winder escutcheons and a white tipped speedometer needle, countersunk switches on the facia and a key operated exterior passenger door lock which signify very early 1200.  If this were mine, I'd sympathetically renovate and keep as original and as standard as I could.  It is a very collectable little car. Mark
  5. I believe that it was one of the quicker Heralds out there at the time..... Mark
  6. That car used to belong to long term Triumph enthusiast Leon Guyot.  I remember him owning it but it wasn't electrically powered then. Mark
  7. Just take the engine out, far easier. Mark
  8. Sounds like the age old thrust washer issue.  I would suggest stop using the car until you have resolved this or you risk the block becoming scrap..... Mark
  9. Feargal Sharkey hasn't got fins. (But he has got A Good Heart).   M.
  10. Why is your Vitesse called Feargal Sharkey? M.
  11. Nothing as good as NOS.  For what you need probably Fitchetts are best. Mark
  12. Hi Nick,  glad to see that the thread is still going (and the GT6)!  I was wondering how things were going after the accident. Mark
  13. Rear wings on Herald/Vitesse's are notoriously difficult to fit for a number of reasons, not least of all, the reasons that Bill has outlined and also, the centre of the panel over the wheel arch is bowed outwards slightly and the reproduction panels fail to take that into consideration and are flat.  The panels are often too long which means plenty of fettling around the door shut join into the B post.  The spot welding into the B post and along the horizontal seam is hard to achieve without massive distortion and the rolled seam welding there the panel buts up to the rear light mounting panel is very hard to achieve without distortion.  Occasionally there are "complete" rear quarter panels available on eBay which comprises of the B post, both upper and lower wings and the light mounting panel already assembled.  These are easier to fit as the places which distort due to welding are far more concealed and visually the fit and final finish is more factory fresh than just replacing the lower outer panel with a pattern panel or even a Stanpart replacement. Mark
  14. When you say he was a winker do you mean that he had a nervous tic?  Perhaps he was winking when he made the delivery and that's when he accidentally turned the battery upside down?   M.

    Gearbox.

I went to Luton once.  Rained all day...... M.
  16. Small crank 1300 reviver and better than 1500 IMHO.  Less likely to break and a whole 75 horses too! M.
  17. MKll Vitesse I'd say as a Herald one probably won't fit with the Rotoflex set up. M.
  18. I remember reading the story of a serious sexual assault by a lunatic who ran away after, it took place in my local laundrette, when I were a lad..... The local headline ran Nut screws washer and bolts....... M.
  19. Triumph 1500 FWD at a guess, since 1300 FWD was code named Ajax...... Mark
  20. Flat plate welded plus filler is what I'd use. Mark
  21. Especially 46 year old ones!  Most people took 'em off when they got the car home.  On my Herald that is what my grandfather did once we got home from the dealership.  He kept the tax disc holder though and I was still using it up until tax discs finished. M.
  22. Hi Steve, Just to indulge your "weird perversion"   with old ex-Triumph Dealers, there a 1970 one owner 13/60 convertible on eBay currently, it shows a rear window sticker that looks suspiciously like Caffyns (well known and long established dealer group who still exist). Here is the link:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970.....9:g:FPAAAOSwdzVXnzjG Mark
  23. Someone'll be along soon to advise on correcting tub spread. M.
