  1. Nope, you'll have to cut out the tunnel and patch it over with a removable shaped cover. M.
  2. Trouble with that is the suspension isn't loaded with the weight of the car so the driveshafts will rub on the tops of the chassis mainrails and that noise will mask any other noises from the drivetrain.  You could find a long steep hill, get the car to about 30-40 mph and coast with the car in neutral and with the engine off and then see what you can hear.  Interesting to note that Canley's thought possibly crank thrust washers as I too had suggested earlier.  I experienced this on a small crank 13/60 engine, the squealing was under load, i.e. under acceleration.  The problem with these sorts of noises is that the car can transmit the noise all over the place. 3. There must be loads of decent 4.11:1 diffs around.  Most popular diff to upgrade from..... Mark
  4. I still think that this is gearbox related, or at least clutch related.  Have you replaced the clutch?  Could it be release bearing?  The other noise I wonder might be crank thrust washers?  I have had noise related to this on a small crank 1296 before but nowhere nearly as bad as that you are experiencing. Mark
  5. I hadn't realised that there were two gearboxes involved.  Does the engine make this noise when the car is stationary?  Does it do it when coasting in neutral? Mark
  6. To my ear that is lay shaft noise.  I can't offer anything more than that without driving it.  Sorry. Mark
  7. Very much sounds like knackered layshaft and/or bearings to me. Mark
  8. I sold hundreds (well shedloads anyway) of those!  Horrible cars but cheap and good value.  Noisy as a bag of spanners. Mark
  9. Midnight Blue or Shadow Blue? Mark
  10. I didn't, I just know that they fit.  Andy is correct about the convertibles though.  I'd forgotten about the wider B pillar. Mark
  11. Hello Stephen, Welcome to the forum.  MG 'F' seats fit quite nicely too into a Vitesse........ Mark
  12. Did you change the tensioner too? Mark
  13. My money on 2 Litre MKl engine with those 0-60 times (assuming accuracy).... Mark

    Doors

Even taking a good body off a good chassis and refitting it doesn't guarantee great gaps even if they were great before.  The meccano nature of these car's construction means a lot of washers, wedges and packing pieces have to be used in the build up of the body and chassis assembly. Persevere and you'll get it right, some cars have loads of washers on one side and none on the other etc it's normal. M.

Looks like the bulkhead is leaning too far back on the rear mounts, the way to correct this is to use spacers under the rearmost mounts to tilt it forward rather than shifting it forwards.  This should open the gap at the top of the A post and reduce the gap at the bottom of the A post/bottom wing area.  You will find that the bulkhead settles/sinks with both age and poor realignment of subsequently realigned front outriggers. Doors on all but the very earliest of the early Heralds are all the same.  Could be that your replacement has been badly reskinned in the past. Mark
  18. I'd be interested in hearing about your results since your engine is similar to mine bar the cam which on mine is bound to give a lumpy tick over. Mark
  19. It should work well I would think, what is wrong with the standard Lucas dizzy though?  I have a similar quandary with a similar head but with bigger valves and running a 30/70/70/30 cam.  This engine is very modified and has been balanced too for whatever reason....  I'm looking forward to dropping it into my Herald, and have the same carb and manifold set up but MKl Spitfire  stubby inlet manifolds.  I assumed a MKl Spit AC Delco dizzy would be the way forward but there are probably better and more up to date alternatives. Mark
  20. How uprated is the engine?  What head mods and which camshaft? Mark
  21. My mate had a '64 convertible 6 with twin CD125 Strombergs. Mark
  22. I have only fitted the genuine wings, once to a 948 and once to a Vitesse.  I imagine that the same rules apply to the 13/60 as to the Vitesse.  Not fitted the reproduction front wings but have fitted a repro rear lower wing to a Vitesse and that was a game and a half, the bloody thing was too long! M.
  23. I'd second that.  Pinking to the Nth degree or dieseling most likely the engine is overheating badly.  Can't see why a distributor would move on its own. Mark
