I wouldn't say scary at least on the straight but then the car wasn't too old at the time, 7 years old with 40000 ish miles. I would say that allowing for speedo optimism that it was a true 100 mph. M.

MKll Vitesse good for an indicated 110 mph if you are brave. My one used to start to lift on the front at around those speeds.... Fortune favours the brave..... Mark

Lifting eyes should be on the front and back of the head if not, 2 people can easily lift the engine, or one Hungarian..... Mark

That is what I just said, replace ALL 3 components the pressure plate is the cover. Coil Spring type is fine but if converting to diaphragm type you'll need to change the flywheel and the slave cylinder to match as these differ according to which clutch is used. Incidentally another reason why the pedal is high is if you had the slave cylinder from a diaphragm type clutch fitted. M.

New clutch'll sort it out. Replace the disc, cover and release bearing as policy. Try to find NOS Borg & Beck or at worst QH and not the cheapest that is out there or you'll be doing it again in 6 months. M.

Restoration garage recommendations Coventry area
Mark Hammond replied to andybeau's topic in Triumph Chat
In all my 55+ years, the project of restoration Herald was one of the most exciting moments i have experienced (perhaps I've led a boring life). The odd visit, many emailed photos and the final point when it's time to collect.... Bear in mind, I have known my car from day one as it was owned from new within the family. M.- 14 replies

Too far? I'm 150 miles south of you and it wasn't too far for me! It's a day to drive there and a £50 Easyjet flight home. Mark- 14 replies

300ish miles he is 25 miles north of Edinburgh but better than anyone else that I know and I know many! My Herald cost over £15k to restore and £12k of that went to Chic but, and it is a big but, the car was restored to Concours standard and most of it is new old stock. That's right, a new old stock Herald! Mark- 14 replies

No where near Coventry but I had my Herald restored by Chic Doig. Total ground up restoration with NOS chassis and bonnet as well as everything else. His work is superb and the labour rates very reasonable. Mark- 14 replies

Frank Carr of Carrs Auto Sales Croydon was a well known Triumph Dealer back in the 50's, 60's and 70's. He was well known to Triumph top brass and as we all know the the Herald was named after the boat the Alec Dick owned at the time, well it was Frank Carr who sold him the boat! I'm not sure whether Frank is still Alive, if he is, he'd be terribly old now. On another subject I know someone who worked for Jack Brabham in the early 1960s.......... Mark

Interesting as the Toledo was never available with overdrive. Triumph 1500TC perhaps? Spitfire MKlV maybe, using a Toledo gearcase? Speedo cable should fit but you'll need an angle drive. Looks like a D Type to me. Don't forget you'll need to cut the front of the prop tunnel and get a plate to cover it as per Vitesse with overdrive, and you'll need a mount at the rear. Mark

Wire wheels on a small chassis Triumph? They look great on the upside but on the downside, they're difficult to clean and make a flexible car even more flexible. Mark

Never, ever use grease on a small chassis Triumph front trunnion. It should be filled with EP90 gear oil and nothing else. Mark
