  1. So we are entry 61 and we will both be 61. Anybody know where we can get a 1955 Standard 8 to complete the set ?
  2. I found the spares list a great way to pool the information for all, I did used to run the rule that if you reply with your spares you get a list, you don't reply you don't get one, lol. I found some people used to run hybrid vehicles and as such used to have spares for different cars onboard. Shame the club don't promote the list on its events. I missed out this year due to ongoing commitments , I intend to visit Europe next year where a tailored individual run will be enjoyed. Rob
  3. Colin, I gave up the task as it took a lot of time and I moved job and home and am finishing the build of my new home and did not have the spare time. I still managed 90+ cars on the last list I did which is a lot of useful info. Again I was sorry it died, I plan to re start them when I get my own house in order (excuse the pun) . Ps , Dale , Mike Carries a hub puller on these events. Rob
  4. A bit harsh there Mike?? I did not take part this year but even I know Mike was at the drivers meetings. The spares list used to work very well and saved phoning 10 or more people to get an idea if they had a spacific spare part. It used to Be a lot of messing but was worth it (IMHO). I was very surprised that no one volunteered to take over the compilation of the list when I stepped down from compiling them. Sorry to hear they are not a current part of ct events. Rob
  5. PM me your email and Ill send a colour diagram Rob

The tyres are mid-range steel belted radials and seem to work quite well in dry and wet conditions, although we've only been caught in the wet a couple of times   :o
  7. You may want to experiment with different tyre sizes. Our car is fitted with 5.5" LP923 wheels and the suspension is lowered 1". When purchased, the car was fitted with 185/60 tyres. These were a little old, tired and the smaller diameter meant the speedo was wrong. We decided to replace them as a priority. After some research we realised 175/70 tyres were more suitable because they matched the diameter of the factory radial option, the 155/80x13. However, the 175/70 tyre rubbed on the rear bodywork at times, especially on undulating surfaces when running with a full petrol tank, two passengers and weekend luggage. We decided to try the intermediate size 175/65 and found that these worked really well. The size is larger diameter than the 185/60 but still a bit smaller than the 155/80, so the speedo is still a little wrong. However, it is close enough for our needs. We have experienced no rubbing or handling problems at all.
  8. I had a cooler whilst I had my 1300 fitted and it made a difference to oil pressure and the car did not smell as much with it fitted, but that was a tuned engine. I don't run a cooler now on the 2ltr 16v and the oil temp is  not an issue as I have a temp and pressure sensor. No issue no oil cooler. Rob
  9. I fitted a Facet redtop 12v fuel pump on my 1300 and 8 years on its supplying my swirl pot with fuel no issues. Reliability and increased performance less bits to go wrong (mechanical fuel pump has lots of parts that do go wrong) If you insist on keeping the mechanical pump you may have to have the camshaft re ground on that damaged area. Good luck Rob Mike Happy new year mate hope all is well
  10. bin it blank it and fit an 12v unit and forget Rob
  11. I did some digging on this last year and found there are a few of the big companies that cover you for the recovery of your pride and joy but don't also cover the cost of your hire vehicle (which can run into the hundreds) As Mike says CHECK VERBALLY with your insurer and if you are NOT covered consider a change of companies as my mate found out 300+ quid later is more than he pays in his insurance. Rob
  12. I have changed many head gaskets on my old 1300, the only gasket I would use is Payen. Choose cheap buy twice! well with this item!! Rob
  13. I am going the MGF TF rear conversion, I have the calipers, they accept a handbrake and are cheap. Heavy? still lighter than a drum rear end, and being MGF you can use the correct disc and fabricate a bracket. Tim (bestquality03) did this to great results , especially with the Canley front conversion. Rob

  15. I doubt I will be on next years event. I have other commitments which will see me doing very little with the car or my time in the next 12-18 months. I do plan to do the following 10cr in 17 and also the Carrera if its running?
  16. You can please some of the people most of the time! I agree in most of the original points, I always find the drivers meeting a big drive and usage of my time for what I think is not required or needed and overly long. Drivers road books in the RBRR! or 10CR are always comprehensive and well written but they are for me to convert to Sat Nav as I find the road book is for me only for reference and a distraction on the runs. The RBRR for me is a great event but restricted, I would like to see a modern twist added with the removal of manned checkpoints and the addition of a CT RBRR checkpoint sticker which can be photographed with a time clock. This allows cars to start any checkpoint and finish at the same, encompassing the whole event to the route without having to drive to the London start point. Yes entrants would have to sort their own food out for breakfast and pies out at certain check points but that would reduce the cost of the event for entrants. I also think a min contribution for charity is a must, out of interest were there any cars that have zero sponsorship monies?? The event would run over the same 48 hours and it would need a lot less man power to run. I know these changes would never be introduced as it is too far away from the original event, I personally think the word reliability should stay. All the above is IMHO. ROb
  17. I have been running Spax for 7 years and no issues they are good value for money. Koni have a very good rep. I cannot comment on any other. Rob
  18. Met up with Chris and Zoe at Perth this morning, I had arranged to meet with Royboy but he forgot and drove past our meet point. Good run to all taking part Rob
  19. I used a fuel King and it did the job, still have it somewhere? about thirty quid or fifty for the one with a built in filter. You can get cheaper. Rob
  20. I have one in Manchester you could borrow but too far from Manchester. I took my engine out without a hoist before once the carbs, exhaust is off its a lot lighter. Don't do it on your own like I did it leads to a sore back. I would not like to get it in  without a lift. You can hire them as well HSS Hire and the like. Rob
  21. There are brackets welded into the bulkhead and to the radiator cowl. I have no pics as I have never fitted them, I see no point. Rob
  22. I would not buy a 50s or 60s car without the capability of relaxed cruising at modern speeds. However, monetizing a decision like "to OD or not to OD" can be problematic. Offsetting the project cost of fitting an OD unit: What value do you place decreased wear-and-tear on the engine? On increased economy? On more relaxed cruising? Our 4-cyl and 6-cyl cars were designed (and geared) for use at a time when 45-50 mph was a normal open road speed. Nowadays 60-65 mph or higher is normal. If we expect to cruise with modern traffic, then different gearing makes sense. Whether one chooses a different differential ratio, a 5-speed conversion or a period overdrive is a personal choice.
  23. No need for a diff cooler (oil cooler type) as Canleys do a alloy diff case with fins to assist cooling, and it allows a larger oil capacity. Rob
