  1. UJ's are a common problem. Easy(ish) to replace. Good luck ROb
  2. My car has the Canleys CV shaft conversion, complete with AVO adjustable telescopic shocks and a 1" lowering block (albeit with standard Mk2 Vitesse spring). The setup works really well.
  3. There is a circlip however if its heavily corroded then it may take a lot to get it out.
  4. Einar wrote:Thanks, I’ve been thinking something like that regarding earthing. However as I measure 12V across the steering column and horn pencil I thought the earthing was OK….. See pic – it was not added in the original post….. The earthing problem on my car was different, it was at the horn end. The mounting bracket/bolt/mounting position did not provide an adequate earth loop. However, the introduction of an extra wire, to pick up a more reliable earth elsewhere, saw the problem solved.
  5. I've had some problems with the horn on my car as well. Eventually, I tracked the problem down to a poor earth and a slightly 'sticky' operation of the horn button inside the Moto-Lita steering wheel hub. The first problem was resolved by running an earth wire from the horn mount back to a point where a clean metal-on-mtal contact could be made, and a small amount of lubricant fixed the second problem.
  6. Can I add, get a manual or workshop booklet and do not attempt any work if you are not completely happy as this is a part of the car that has to be right, failure of the vertical link or it not being fitted properly could lead to a serious accident. Rob
  7. good write up Marcus, interesting, I have a set of rear MGF callipers and plan to fit them over this coming winter 2014 into 2015 when I do my rear end and CV conversion. What front callipers or set up are you using and do you use a brake pressure balance valve to balance power from front to rear? Rob

  10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RX-Accumate-6v-12v-Motorcycle-Battery-Charger-/261322769806?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3cd80d058e I have one of the above chargers, it says motorcycle battery charger but it does all 6v and 12v batteries. I have recovered batteries that have been dead and I mean zero charge or would not take a charge from my normal battery charger. Not cheapest but mine is 9 years old and still going Rob
  11. Ask them they may have different suppliers ! Give them a bell, they are always happy to help Rob

Any feedback?
  13. Me? Quiet? Tim, behave yourself! :) Lack of a Triumph has had me looking at other challenges. Currently looking at the Top Gear Land's End to Lowestoft run at midsummer. Spoke to David Huddy last week and we're both up for Carter Bar again. Let me know if you want me to contact Transport Scotland and Northumberland Council again or I can e-mail you the appropriate contacts if you wish. Jim.

    Rocker gear

3398 wrote:I'd like to replace my rocker gear. Anyone recommend where I can get a whole assembly for a Vitesse 6? Paddocks do one at £85 but it's for a MKII. Is it also worth replacing the pushrods? Paddocks sells these at £2.50 each, so not too expensive if I did? Thanks I have just bought a set of 12 rocker arms and a rocker shaft from Canley Classics, albeit for a Mk2 engine. Quality is good. They also do a full rocker assembly kit, I believe.

Big question is the price and I know that may be dependant on quantity! Rob
  16. Yes for rear cover and Nick I would want your CV conversion set up or as discussed with Clive get some shafts made up for scoobie inner CV and MGF outer? Rob PS this may get more feedback if it was in the technical section !
  17. Found the instruction book (Service training notes for Herald and Vitesse body). Sadly it does not have the level of detail necessary to see where the U-shaped washer fit. Sorry.
  18. Well it's just gone dinner time here (NZL). No dog to walk  ;), so am catching up on some tasks on the computer. I think I have a body mounting instruction book in PDF format, which may provide some answers. I'll check now...
  19. I pushed to leather for mine, well worth the extra especially after 20+ hours of driving and your not stuck to your seat!! Consider getting a decent set that will last. Rob
  20. I'd agree with the semi-dished wheel suggestion. Our Moto-Lita wheel has grooves on the back, which I find helps keep a good grip on the wheel when turning at low speeds.
  21. available setting up with megajolt. Rob
  22. Listen, once we're independent and you lot have voted to leave the EU, we might let the poor people from south of the border back across now and again. We'll welcome Romanians and Bulgarians but not the economic migrants from the wrong side of Hadrians Wall. Never mind, you'll still have the Empire, you know, Gibraltar and the Falklands! ;) Jim.
  23. Borg and Beck are very good, stick with a decent make and replace the thrust bearing whilst you are at it!!
  24. Wim, no not the anti roll bar, the lower bushes on the suspension. The next 10cr is 2015 so you will be waiting some time mate, Rob
  25. Mine did the same, mine was the rubber bushes that were rubbing on the chassis either side of the lower mounts. I took them apart and smeared the ends of the bushes with grease. But WD40 should do the trick. I must say I have not had that problem after poly bushing the Spitty. Wim you car looks fab, you must bring it to the uk next year! Rob Sean, not all squeaks are squeaks lol
