mikew
So who paid £180 for the nos tailgate seal? Was it you Alan, or are you still saving to fill up the Range Rover fuel tank?Nearly as crazy a price as the TR5 wheeltrimsmike

andy thompson
I honestly can't remember what I paid but it was more than 30 and a lot less than 180 - remember thinking - just glad I've got one - I had to import a tailgate too!!! Mine was full of rot and looked like this - big fog light holes. Got wedgewood one off a Mk1 that was even the right colour :)
AlanChatterton
Nope, wasn't me either. Ridiculous price to pay for a piece of rubber trim.................!I would have paid up to about £100, and I offered that to Lee, but it went on ebay for the highest bidder.I can't imagine who would pay such a stupid amount for one.Me, I'll be cobbling something together out of 3 old tatty ones and a MKI boot seal! TedTaylor
I reflect the view of Andy, Mike and Alan. Like Alan my tops was £100 and finding that would not be enough went out and looked at my own seals - and found I could cobble something half decent together. The windscreens thing is nearly sorted - unheated within the next 2 to 4 weeks and heated about 8 weeks - and am about to send out an update to everyone who placed orders. When that is out of the way, and bearing in mind that I could do with a seal like Alan (who is an independent Windscreens Fund 'committee member' with Steph and myself), perhaps I should look into then logistics of getting these re-manufactured if there is enough interest. After all it won't be £180 and I would only be interested if it was below the £100 mark with a target £50.Anyone interested?Ted
willows40
tedif you can come up with a tailgate seal at reasonable price, count me in.Would of had a windscreen but funds are tight at moment.cheers andy
CRAJ
I would be interested if you could getthem for that sort of money Ted, I used CW recommended mk1 bootlid seal. Not long enough to do the bottom run on the tailgate but it doesn't leak at the top like the flattened original!Colin.

AlanChatterton
Ted,I have looked at having them reproduced. Lee lent me the said tailgate seal to see if it could be copied. Took it to a couple of specialists, and the answer is, no profile exists that is anywhere near close enough to remake even a half hearted copy.Needs total new tooling, cost cica £5k.Dead in the water mate.Makes the £180 seem almost reasonable............ ;D

CRAJ
mikew wrote:And I was going to blame you for spending the money too... ??)wonder who it was?who else owns an estate?mikeLee did offer it to me as well, too much for me I'm afraid and the mk1 bootlid seal is working well enough. Some prices for things on ebay recently have really suprised me, the TR5 wheel trims are too expensive to risk putting on a car.Talking to Alan Crussell yesterday (he has owned a TR5 since the early 70's), he said one day he went over a bump in the road and both front trims flew off upwards, crossed in mid air and ended up eitherside of the road. Not the first time or last that he had been overtaken by a flying rostyle, apparently they don't bounce well when they land either!Colin.
Englishbull
Well of course I know who as won the seal but it is not my position to divuldge such information. As mentioned I did ask all those I knew with estates before listing it on ebay for a fair auction!!!!!!!!!!!!.I suppose in fairness a price for anything is as much as somebody is willing to pay if they so desperately need the item..........especially if the said item is no longer available and cannot be reproduced.............. :-/As Alan also say's ,I did lend him the seal to see if he could get them re produced to help everybody out.....................but no joy :'(PS.....................I do have a few NOS MK1 boot seals too lol

estately
I could be keen for one too, for the 50 quid end of the price scale, preferably. Works out as rather a lot when converted to the New Zealand dollar.Cheers.
