sam93
Hi all,Just rebuilding the electrics within the engine bay, I've got a question about fixing the starter solenoid to the bulkhead. Do the rubber pads need to isolate the body of the starter solenoid from the bulkhead ?Or does this not matter as my herald is a negative earth type.To ask it an other way, should I have continuity to earth on the body of the starter solenoid. Cheers,Sam.
Freebird
I doesn't need to be earthed, though I'm sure it doesn't matter if it is either.
piman
Hello Sam, most solenoids I've seen need to be earthed to the body. I can see from your picture two spade terminals, one on the main contact terminal and another which looks like the solenoid live. If there are no other spade terminals then it has to be earthed.Alec
Paudman
Earth it through the body, via the mounting bolts! The rubber pads are probably for vibration, not insulation. Don't connect any of the spade terminals to earth as they are all for the starter mechanism i.e. power in, solenoid then switches power to the starter circuit etc. I don't think that's what Piman meant but the wording of the post could be confusing.
