  1. Given that the gap should be parallel along the door. I would discount the large discrepancy by one of the quarterlights, which is probably stretched from fitting/removing said quarterlight. I would go for 20mm 😎
  2. I've got that setup on my K reg Stag. There are two lugs on the pipes which should bolt to the auto box, but they're are just left loose. I keep meaning to do something about them but...
  3. Hi Sujit, As far as I know the mainshaft and the bearing are the same as on a TR, Sprint & 2000/2.5. Possibly some interference fits are more interference than others? I'll try and ask my friend who did my Stag box how he did it.
  4. Sorry , link no longer available Thats a MkI Saloon / MkI & II Estate diff. Chris Witor has the gasket £2.75 http://www.chriswitor.com/products.php?cat=332 The serial No. is stamped into the main casing on the bottom, usually buried under paint or dirt and can be hard to spot sometimes. At a guess will start MB, MG, ME or MN.
  5. Also check the six figure part number in the rear aluminium casting, this will will identify the origin. Post it on here if you want someone to trace it. There are two bolt holes that differ between the Stag and Saloon.
  6. As all the studs are now out I would go for a big block of wood and a very big hammer.
  7. Relays now fitted to headlights, Alison changed the engine oil, and topped up the gearbox oil. Bit of a leak there, to be looked at next year. Could be breather, could be seals, although the box was rebuilt not that many miles ago. I did hear about some gearbox casings being porous.  Damn I hate taking the Stag gearbox out. James came round last night to use the press and put in a couple of new front lower ball joints for his RBRR PI. We tightened the float bowl screws on the Stag, hopefully that will stop the fuel smell when its left standing. Also tightened up the head(s) to timing cover bolts which were seeping oil.

    Crank job

Helicoil. I've found it useful to put a long spring clip (P clip, sort of) through the forward bolt to secure the speedo cable.
  9. Changed the steering column bushes and lower bearing on the Stag. That annoying movement at the steering wheel has now gone. As a plus Emily replaced some of the perished stitching on the steering wheel at the same time. Fitted U/J's to the overhauled 180B driveshafts and now swapped out the driveshafts on the car for Datsun ones with overhauled hubs as well! Moving on to some electrical jobs now.
  10. I understand its there to strengthen the shell in the absence of a roof. More fore 'n aft than left to right if that makes sense? 🤔 That said the T-Bar and the B'post are substantial items.
  11. If you are near West London, this are the guys to go to. http://www.thinkauto.com/ Heres their catalogue as a PDF http://www.thinkauto.com/plist010106gweb.pdf They will do postal. Can you post pictures of the backs of the gauges?
  12. Probably too deep a wheel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare.....6:g:-ZkAAOSw-itXrMAK
  13. Has the clutch been replaced? If so was it correctly aligned before fitting, if not you will have to take it off and align it. with the tool or if some local has a spare input shaft. Try to get the gap all the way around the bellhousing even. The bellhousing and backplate must be parallel! Put it in gear (4th) and try rotating the output flange of the box as you push onto the engine to get the splines engaged.
  14. Stag WAM entry 95 Fitted Pertonix electronic ignition (& coil) on Saturday, high end misfire now seems to have cleared. Building up Datsun 180B driveshafts on Sunday, I assembled the hubs last year, but then got distracted with other things. I stripped one of the shafts down as the movement was feeling 'rough & the DPO had assembled the two parts of the shaft 45 degrees out, so the U/J's were not aligned. Maybe that was deliberate and for a good reason, but all the other halfshafts I possess have the U/J's aligned. Cleaned out the grease and some rust that had crept in from the small diameter end of the shaft. Some of the ball bearings had lost their shine (chrome plating) so I've ordered new ones prior to reassembly. No damage was apparent to the bearing grooves, The ball bearings are 7/16" diameter, there I was expecting them to be metric not imperial, to match the metric U/J's that the Datsuns take. Now that I've figured out how to strip one down, I  will probably do the same to the other one just to replace the 30+ year old grease. There is no grease nipple fitted to these shafts, maybe a project for another day?
  15. I had the Moprod one, with the cranked handle. Still works, but tiring if making a lot of ends.
  16. Make sure it isn't body spread (where the rear of the door at the bottom sticks out)
  17. Make sure it isn't body spread (where the rear of the door at the bottom sticks out)
  18. I prefer this style. More expensive but not too dear S/H. You can the get replacement dies for other pipe sizes as required (metric etc). Only for use bench mounted though, not suitable for working on the car. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/brak.....2:g:jVsAAOSw-YVXmlUk http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/brak.....4:g:5roAAOSweXhXmiav
  19. Pre-proving run to Ace cafe Hendon in Stag ok Proving run to Le Mans in Stag ok Post proving run to Winchester ok Need to sort steering column bearing for MOT Would like to swap to Datsun driveshafts, fit relays on headlights and fit the rectangular Lucas fog lights before October. WAM looking good for 2016 😎
  20. But... I think Martin needs to change the bearing in the nose-piece as the front oil seal is worn.
  21. Having trouble positioning the bracket in the correct location. Dimension B (courtesy of Canley Classics) same measurement as No. 68 in my GT6 workshop manual 5.6" Now going back to my old TD days that is a plan view of the chassis and so I would expect the measurement to be to the shock absorber bracket on the top. Not to the sloping panel that supports the bracket. Bloody difficult to measure though. I have access to another chassis with brackets already fitted, buy they look a lot closer to shock absorber supports.
  22. Standard GT6 Vitesse flywheel should be light enough. Also as its an auto engine, there will be less wear to the thrust washers 😎
