  1. if the faces are OK,  but the wear has removed the lugs on the bearing cap you can with care  build some weld to re fettle some retaining lugs if the crank face is damaged there is bigger decisions to make Pete
  2. certainly sounds like the cover is thin/ low fingers or thin throwout bearing,   the socket spacer is telling you its been hybrid for a while are there any identifying marks on the cover ??  ,,  maybe  a photo of the offender throw out are common across the range, 1200-13/60  the WSM gives cover dimensions for coil cover but not for diaphragm covers  !!!   there are many clutch covers available in you dia and fitting but can vary in cover design and finger heights My guess its you have a rogue fitted Pete
  3. yes the spherical cup  on the end of the rack under the gaitor is shimmed  easy to undo and add or remove ,  the shims sit behind the inboard  ball socket cup   pete
  4. Not a lot it,  as already said it stops the spindle rotating in the case,, early  3 sync didnt use it So theres loads about that never had one fitted and yours might be  just a surplus   lucky it didnt mince things pete
  5. Rocker box Mayo is normal in cold weather and short runs  nothing to do with HG problems unless its real nasty HG lets compression into the water jacket rather than coolant into the combustion as the pressures are vasty different. rarely water in oil ,  I go with John  look for a hidden leak and do a Compression test with a good battery all plugs out and throttle open. pete
  6. l go for  the tail of the layshaft spindle short and dumpy  roll pin pete
  7. Dynamo.s are polarity conscious without reading it up you used to  flash a quick quick 12v pos to the main terminal  ??   Gauges are voltage regulated , dont read right if reversed , there is a stabiliser clamped to the back of the speedo which regulates a 10.5 volt pulsed feed to both gauges its certainly had battery been put on reversed and should be  neg earth as you have said, pete
  8. yes the layshaft spindle pin is outside the running gear , but does fit in an oil drain relief especially in the rearcover or OD adaptor casing , could it escape ...not really what can and does escape is needles from the input shaft/mainshaft spigot  and this is the main culprit  zone for failures wear and tear . agree a picture would tell a better tale Pete
  9. http://www.skf.com/uk/products.....di-sleeve/index.html http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Products-Speedi-Sleeves/c4747_5335/index.html?page=1 http://www.industrialbearings.com.au/uploads/catalogs/skfspeedisleeve_1338271826.pdf Pet and I have a friend works at SKF at the bottom of my road which i will ask but if ok after a run in ...sleep happy
  10. glad its off...on   off think weve all been there from time to time i would burnish the coupling with some 1200 grit it may show a wear line, skf and others make wear sleeves , this is a very tin tap on tube to repair worn journals  and uses same seal . on production in the 80s we fitted them a std to all our axles so its not a bodge .so repairs could be done in later life. do check the OD breather and the small hole in the gearbox top cover ( under the selector rod casting are open and working) Pete
  11. I have a 1/2"  Mac  19.5 volt 330 lbft  impact gun which shifts just about anything triumph I have 3 makita drills  but dont know about their impact wrench ,, not to be confused with a impact driver which is normally aimed at screws not 32mm nuts pete
  12. Some leave the nipples in its the preference thing,  a plug is water tight a failed nipple isnt book says 4 squirts witha gun every  main service there also plugs on the front trunnion swivels DO NOT grease these use EP90  as its an oil reservior good time to keep an eye out for auto jumble Wanner Guns have one for oil one for grease pete
  13. ive  also done a 4 cyl with two men a fence post and good rope ,  getting it high is a challenge ....couldnt do it now though have used a haltrack  block and tackle  to lift a complete assy out years back   it worked ok but took some pulling !! Pete
  14. Od couplings  normally just pulls off or may be a tap with a mallet its not a gorilla fit pete
  15. 6cyl  coil cover disc should be 0.33" (8.38mm)  as new    nipped in a vice to just compress the wavy plates within the linings diaphragm disc  is 0.29"  ( 7.36mm) so if you have a thin disc and thin bearing the geometry of the levers and fingers will be way out Pete
  16. if sure that will get it close, watch  out for hose stretch etc. tip if you remove the mount to the base plate   , tack weld the bolts into the mount as spanner access to hold the hex is  more than a challenge, if tacked you can fit the nuts underside .........,one handed Pete
  17. A diaphragm   clutch has a thinner disc than a coil cover , that  would give a high worn effect bite If you have a coil cover and diaphragm disc . you need to nip the linings in a  vice  and measure its thickness   the data is normally in the wsm under testing and setting  using a metal packer to simulate the disc or innthe main specs for the clutch,  sorry mine not accessible just now. the thin throw out bearings 15mm instead of 19mm is vitesse gt6 6cly.   Not 4 cyl. pete
  18. Tssc  club shop sells the orig gold colour code  in aerosols pete
  19. There are interlock pins and balls that prevent  selecting two gears at once situated between the 3 shafts the tunnel should be cut back a good few inches to allow access to overdrive coouplings   has a simple  screw down  tin plate  made to cover the prop tunnel gap a pair of bolts thru the coupling and lock it with a pry bar should be easy to hold the coupljng from rotating   its not gorilla tight pete
  20. https://www.coh-baines.co.uk/ have a look at  c o h baines they make just about every seal you may need Have a sort through the type and all the extrusions   Pete

  22. from what you say  its  not  pulled out far enough to remove the clutch from the flywheel ??? its only retainer is a circlip inside the input sleeve,     can only be ageism and crud holding it ....well  Hmmm... Pete
  23. to clear the back of the hub casting was machined with a well defined chamfer  the orig early were a cast chamfer, easy to modify with a grinder
  24. Fitting the two together is a nack,  are you sure its spring,  what can you see? if the splines inside dont align they stop the od from dropping down the main  shaft leaves a good gap. the easiest trick is two good screw drivers and whilst dropping the od lever the two pressure plates open a little this  allows the annulus to rotate and all the hub splines  line up and she drop into place Pete
