When I first got my car it's oil turned to jelly every couple of months. I finally discovered I had an 1/8th of an inch end float!  :-/   I replaced the thrust washers and crank shells however, the damage was done. The bores had worn in an elongated S shape and the crank bearings were worn lower at the edges with the back and forward movement. Only fixed by a re-bore and regrind.

Thought I'd bring this thread back to life as I have just carried this out.

You need standard size thrust washers to find out the 'true' end float and then replace with oversize as required. They're oversize from standard not from worn ones. I ended up using one standard and one +5 from Moss.
