Cheers is it magnetic ?  I was thinking of doing the same, I presume its a BSP thread ?

Its only M8 thread that ive used.

Been looking for a magnectic drainplug, but only found 1 that is M8 for a motorcyle.

Need to buy some to test, but this diff needs to be installed asap. 😑

No pressure at all 😅

More stuff done saturday..

But forgot some tools 😑

Drained the rear axle oil, renewed the seal.. what a pig of a job.

Front seal leaking badly, but forgot my 'tool' to hold the flange, so can undo the nut.

Horn was iffy and play in the column.

ok.. horn slip ring broken and fixed in the column with glue.

looked deeper inside.. they have been at the bushes before.

Column was also loose in the car.

So stripped it out, time to do it right !20230415_133749.thumb.jpg.65cb0a7c726285fc6421d0a56a54c1df.jpg20230415_173755.thumb.jpg.d56d42417ce6e54520576562675af4be.jpg

Never seen a column like this in 2 pieces..

It just fell apart 😑😑

I will fix it 😅

So yesterday evening fitted the diff, all went in good and easy.

It was 11pm when we done a testdrive and top down 😅

Very silent at the back now, I had fitted a new waterpump, fan, thermostat, temp sensor.

Now it the temp is also spot on.

Next is some electrical work (fuse box and charging point for phone etc) and put a new cheap ebay radio in it.

Oh.. and rustproof a bit and maybe a spot of welding.

Next winter he wants to have the floors etc stripped to bare metal, epoxy and stonechip.

But first.. finishing off the TR4, hope to testdrive that sunday.

My favorit thing really..

an original dealer sticker from garage (John) Lins in Antwerp.

From 1995 or 1998 the garage became Renault, in 2013 the building was knocked down.

Yesterday tried to finish off the TR4.

Rear diff seal changed, all fluids checked over.

It is a hard starter.. but not to bad after standing for 6 weeks or so.

And then.. Testdrive time.

I had a go to, for now the oldest car i've ever driven.

Now to fit the horn ring.. arriving today (typical..)

And need to change/setup the steering column better, so the steering wheel sits straight and indicator cancelling works sort off.

Another job i've been doing..

Cleaning up some old lights with original lenses.

Current one on Fox have 10year old lenses, but are losing color.

Morea yellowish indicator then a orange one.

Red lens is getting more pink 😅

Old lenses where cleaned with soap and water, scratches sanded out with p7000 wet and then polished with Plastx.

Reverse light lense is new (but i can spot minor differences to the original ones ).

Only 1 light done.. now the other.

Yesterday another trip to the TR4, finishes it off.

It did fight me.. but in the end we had a horn and working indicator stalk.

Then testdrive another british classic.

OD is dead and i supect the solenoid  (no click , even tried straight from a battery.

I do have a working one in my parts somewhere.

In 2 weeks we will have a look at it.

Diff..

For a few weeks/2 months its making noise.

2 months ago changed the oil... it was very copper color.

Now I fixed Fox her oruginal rebuild diff back.

Drained the oil out if the old diff... back copper color.

Once out i have opened it up...

Seems a shim gave up and...

Thats explains the loud banging sometimes 😅

Oh well.. Fox her original diff is now fitted back and will open up the old fully to clear it all from copper/bronze pieces & inspect..

5 minutes ago, Rosbif said:

That filter looked as if it had collected a lot of crud. I changed mine because the plastic had become opaque, the filter was clean inside. ,Obviously petrol in Normandy is cleaner than in Belgium 😁

I was surprised that the filter was so dirty.

Oh well.. its been 10 years since the tank itself was coated inside 😅

Taken the failed diff fully apart yesterday evening to inspect.

More pieces found..

Lucky they collect nicely behind the inner pinion bearing 😅

All cleaned out, seems all is good frlm gears and bearings.

Sometimes I do think an LSD would be the way to go, but maybe a bit over the top..

Strange how it failed..

Wim, do you have a supplier of the dished washers?

I bought these from Moss europe (France).

I did now found some at Bastuck, but are for mk3..

So smaller center hole, I get the hole a bit bigger with a dremel to fit the mkiv/1500 diffs (its a test !).

This morning a bit of suspension work.

Bottom arm was making noise, copper grease on the bushes fixed that.

20230514_112503.thumb.jpg.bce5fb3f1aec96ad3e6828308666fd48.jpg

But.. ball joint gaiters...

From the 4 ball joints, 3 had no grease in them.

I did fit poly gaiters , but now after a few months they became rock hard !

Also noticed my upgraded anti roll bar links gaiters must be quality.. still like new after 4 or 5 years!

Visited a friend his Beetle (last pic) that I fixed a year ago( ok.. on that I hurt my famous finger/tendon !) had a look..

All his new 'Meyle' gaiters still look like new.

The plan is to buy some for a beetle and see what fits.
