WIMPUS
After some more work was done.. Core plugs (originals!) out and paint ! Noticed extra seals on the valve guides/valves to. Didnt ask it, but they did it. Will see how that goes.

Needed to change 2 core plugs in the engine thats now in Fox.. That was a hard job with engine in and behind the manifolds (exhaust pulled back, but still not much room). In wasnt so much the problem, getting the old one out... Ok ok.. it was my first ever time doing core plugs 😅 So i think the 'hard' part is done (removing the old).
WIMPUS
Yesterday started on the build of the engine. Moved everything to my uncles place. Got pretty far ! Core plug went in easy Mister Beans 😄 Now to adjust the oil pump pickup. Install sump etc..

WIMPUS
The water return pipe.. Always find it so annoying that its very hard to remove the manifold if you need to change the gasket etc. as the tab that holds the pipe is on the rear manifold stud. So had a look ...
PeteStupps
Build is looking very nice Wim. Sorry if it's a patronising question but did you clean out the oilways in the crank and block before rebuilding? When I collected my block and crank from the machinist his last words to me were "make sure you give it a good clean through before reassembling". Yes, cleaned them all a few times with brake cleaner and air 😉
WIMPUS
Yesterday startes to de-rust the bootfloor. But found out I best get it all to bare metal.. Sadly in the early afternoon needed to stop. Seems I had some side effects from my booster shot I had on friday evening. Got Fox in the garage and even today didnt do anything. I had asked to use a lift for sunday etc. But that will be for later. This curve had so much rust ! (Water/salt get mostly there..) My strip discs for an angle grinder got rid of everything in no time. (Yes the white paint is original paint)

WIMPUS
More stuff done. Also found a bit of rot.. 🙄 But i knew it was there. 1 Floor is in epoxy primer now, other only half. When stripping you can see where the water/salt spray's up on the body very well.. rusty ! Edited January 31, 2022 by WIMPUS
WIMPUS
The rot.. Drivers side outrigger had a bit repair in the past. But the bottom connection to the chassis was rotten now. Also needed a plate welded in the chassis (first wire brushed inside, rust convertor) Passenger side had pin holes around the drain hole & the same spot that was rotten on the other side had been rewelded years ago. So fixed that outrigger to, just need to drill a drain hole + wax it all to prevent rust.

Now runs much smoother. But thisevening/ weekend its engine swap, putting in my rebuild 1500 engine. Maybe also change the gearbox, will see if i inspect it. Also give the front of the chassis a good de-rust and clean.

WIMPUS
Today flushed out the soda water i was using as coolant. Put in a 82 thermostat instead of a 74 degree one Still temp gauge only went to 1/4 🤔 Changed the temp sender to another new one and fixed. Now reads bang in the middle now. WIMPUS
1 may.. Was going to put Fox inside the garage and set off at the main road. Big bang.. Ever gear the gearbix juddered a lot. Lucky i was 300meters from home, so got a tow to home. NOS laygear had snapped 3 teeth off😔😔😐 Only 1600 miles old. Switched over gearboxes.. But the spare had play on the input bearing and no time (later that failed ofcourse... )
WIMPUS
Then 4 and 5 may... Hurt my left hand/finger badly when cutting metal while working on a friends Beetle 😔 Needed a little operation and tendon welding. Out of action for 2,5 months... Nope. Still was welding 😅 but didnt touch a grinder for 6 months ! Now 7 months later it all 'ok' 😉 (Thanks for people that sended me messages and asked about my hand at Rolduc ! ) Edited December 5, 2022 by WIMPUS
