Spit 1500 / FOX

Few more stuff done to Fox over the past months.

Drivers door done.

More stuff to the bonnet done and various little jobs.

 

Also Fox needed to go in for MOT.

11.000miles done between inspections !

And passed without advisory's 🙃

 

New rear drums fitted & new shoe's and got them from a local supplier.

Well .. from sept 2020 until now i've always needed to go to work.

Thats 30ish miles to and from work daily, counts up to 600miles/month and after a year around 7000 miles just for work.

Then the other bits I do 😅

Normally im getting around 15.000miles/ year.

From sept 2019 until sept 2020 i did around 12.400 miles and that in the pandamic !

Some more work done.

 

A-post was cracking at the door check strap for many years and found out it moved when opening the door.

 

Last weekend cut it open and ... Triumph/BL didnt spotweld it great.

 

Bracket behind it was cracked to & that moved.

 

Now all sorted ! 🙃

Not much doing now of bodywork.. 

 

But spend a few hours on the original engine with 324.000km.

Found a few things, but not to bad !

 

No3 seems to be the biggest problem, but fixable 🙃

Engine was transported to a local machine shop and will look whats wrong with it.

Ofcourse dropped off with Fox.

They also said it didnt look to bad for the milage and being a Spitfire 😅

Today started to clean up parts..

Need to make a list of parts I will need to order.

Sadly been down a day and a half with migraine.. 🙄

 

Now ordered some engine paint.

The flywheel is a bit worn.

Going to look if I can find another good used one .

 

Did find an NOS one in Spain... 300 euro 🙄

 

Also wanted an mk3 profile cam... sadly none in stock now in europe (if someone knows a sourch in europe...).

Machine shop has let me know that the bores will need a rebore (oval) to 0.020

Crank needs a regrind to 0.010

Head needs rebuild etc.

I now need to look for parts 🙃

Parts arrived and dropped off at the machine shop 🙃

Also found out that the conrod top bush has play.

 

Got NOS bushes, so it will get new one.

New ones needed to be reamed out.. so dropped it off at the machine shop to.

 

Again... not bad going after 200.000 miles !

Hi Wim, have you tried calling / emailing Newman Cams? I've heard that they will do the mk3 profile with large journals for 1500 engine.

Yeah…. But Newman in UK, which has taken itself out of Europe for the purposes of improving trade….. or so we were told……. Unfortunately the result is rather different and gets worse still from the 1st Jan when the next round of “improvements” kick-in

Oh I hadn't thought of it that way, I thought only Britons referred to Europe as if it didn't include the UK...!

More stuff arrived.. 

If you look at the bolt you will see..

 

Left is my original one, right the 'new' one..

 

So european/uk spec has 7/16 bolts

USA.... 3/8

 

Measured everything, totally the same exept the holes not drill at 7/16... so we drill it ourselfs to 7/16 😄

Excellent 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised when fitting one of these to my 1300FWD saloon. It didn't transform the car but you could definitely feel a bit more grunt.

Cracked pushrod !

Never have seen that.

Going to buy a set of used ones as I dont thrust the new ones.. 

 

I guess after 200.000miles it had some metal fatigue..
