Royboy66 Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Returning from Goodwood the back of car was covered in gear oil!! yuk!Just taken off inspection cover above diff, the top three bolts holding the front of diff to the rear casing are all finger loose!! wtf!!??Im pretty sure Ive found the cause of the leak!! :) Out with the trusty 1/2" ratchet spanner again!! Roy( stinking of EP90 :-/)
Royboy66 Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 make that ALL 6 bolts loose!! dont you just love lying on your back, trying to get gear oil in the diff!!I especially like the bit when it runs down your arm!showertime!!Roy.
Pete Lewis Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Just bought some EP80/90 GL4 spec from Wilkinsons at £2.49 ltr Peter
GT6boy Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 After the Amoco Cadiz disgraced itself earlier in the year, I took one of these to Goodwood and wanged a quick top-up into the gearbox toot-sweet. Very good tool and saves a lot of ingested EP90. Go-on Roy: it's cheap as chips! Checked the car after Goodwood today, aside from the ongoing GB oil leak( :B), the car is running well. Went for a quick blast in the car today and came back with a big grin ;D. What a lovely day we had at Goodwood, can't wait to meet up with you guys again. :)
JohnD Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 GtEVO is right (of course!), but ask for a "catheter tip" or "bladder" syringe. These have a wide conical connector, ideal for adding a flexible tube to stick into the filler hole, rather than the fine needle connector that others have.Like all modern medical syringes they are single use, even for a car,as the oil will perish the rubber plunger seal after a few hours. They cost pennies when bought in bulk, but I can't find anyone selling them except on boxes of at least ten. A chemist is your best bet, as GT said.John
mikeyb Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 6 quid from machine mart or screwfix gets you a 0.5l oil syringe - comes high on the list of best money ever spent . . . . .
Steve Cureton Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Hey Roy, jou've still got oil in the diff? That's a bit of a rarity for a Triumph!
GT6boy Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Doh! Distracted by watching The Manchurian Candidate at the same time, I forgot to list the picture of my tool(!) :B

Loads of uses for the smaller ones too, brilliant at removing oil/brake fluid/water/petrol from places where it shouldn't be. Might take a little bit of explaining should I ever have my boot searched by the police though. Hmm.
Royboy66 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 Steve, there was more oil on the rear end and up my arm than in the diff! sorted now though! ;DBruce! oh er! you got a license for that!! ;)talk about confident it wouldnt leak!! ;)sorry!Roy 8)
Greeks Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I've got one a bit like this ... cost about a fiver and holds a litre or more. Has a hooked end too which works well as a dipstick
rotoflex Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I've got one of those. It came from a marine supply (boating) store. Apparently some boat people have some operation requiring them. My first was made from an industrial soap pump bottle with a piece of hose & a hose clamp on the outlet.
willcolumbine Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Yes I have one of those! Used it on the boat but not yet on the triumph! Its for filling the gearbox up on a 'Mercury' outboard...
Greeks Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 royboy66 wrote:nice! where can I get one??Roy 8)erm ... my local car shop has them on the shelf :B I'll try to remember the brand name next time I look at it.
Greeks Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I remembered! This is the little beauty ... doubt you can get it in the UK, though :-(http://www.alemite-lubrequip.com.au/Catalogue2/tabid/65/ctl/Detail/mid/409/xmid/181/xmfid/3/Default.aspx
