Overdrive/Diff change?

Hi Guys - some general advise please....

I have a 1500 with a fairly standard set up of non overdrive and as far as I know whatever the standard diff was put into it - all seems pretty normal...

However there are times when I yearn for the luxury of that last gear.  I've read lots from you all about swapping for an overdrive box (I noticed that theres one on ebay at the moment advertised as having 'everything' necessary for the swap...) but and here finally is my query - do I have to change the diff as well?

Please advise (and apologies if there are threads everywhere talking about it...)

Bob

Overdrive is very nice to have and makes the car so much more relaxed at speed.

Obviously there is some risk attached to buying parts from ebay (may be knackered/incomplete etc) but full conversion kits with new/reconditioned parts from the Triumphs specialists are pretty expensive these days.

You do not need to change the diff - they are identical on OD and non-OD Spit 1500s.

You could also consider a 5 speed conversion using a Ford Type 9 from a Sierra.

Cheers

Nick

There are now an increasing number of people selling Type 9 kits and parts - shop around, a simple "type 9" search showed up this http://www.canleyclassics.com/partfinder.asp?partnumber=type%209 personally I like to keep it broadly Triumph and I do like an overdrive but each to his own and the Type 9 box is pretty strong

Thats my answer there then!

Unless you fancy a real challenge - Ford Mondeo based, 5-speed, rear-engined conversion :)
