Entrant Update

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I have just sent the following email to all entrants, confirming it's happening, the route , requesting information and giving restaurant details.

Only as we approach the final countdown for the event can I say that Club Triumph can claim to have finalised the event.  We have had to make a lot of changes recently but I can confirm that as of 22/06/21. It’s Happening!!

Entrant and Crew Information

It is now really important that you complete your entrant information in full and make any updates to your details now.  Email addresses, Entrant Phone Number, Car Type, Car Colour, Car Registration are all vitally important and need to be completed by each entrant.  Please do this right away.

Route

I have had to change the route significantly.  It is unadvisable to plan to go to Scotland.  As a result of this we have the half way halt at Southwaite Services, South on the M6, between Carlisle and Penrith, having cut out the Scottish section of the route.  Part two of the route will be the same to Muker, but from there go to Grassington, Helmsley, Stokesley, Nr Whitby, Pickering and back to Flamborough.  Howard Brissenden is working on updates for the SatNav files. A schedule is attached to this email.  In this you can access the Google Maps I used to plan the route.

Menu

We will be eating at the Headlands Restaurant, Flamborough Head for both the start supper and the finish breakfast.  I attach their menus for both meals.  If you have specialist requirements please let me know asap.  Time will be short at the start, so please arrive at the restaurant knowing what you want to eat and able to order your food quickly.

Covid

I remind you that you and your crew must –

·         Not have Covid symptoms

·         Carry proof of a negative Covid -19 test by Lateral Flow within 48 hours of the start

·         Have the specified PPF and cleaners as part of your kit in the car

·         Wear a mask indoors at the restaurant except when seated at table.

More information will follow.

I hope that your preparation is going well.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris

Running a HCR a few years back in this area I found a complete lack of 24H petrol stations in the Durham and Yorkshire dales. I am not sure if this is still the case but I would suspect it is. I did recommend to crews to fill up before entering these areas and having a spare can in the boot. This might be something you want to consider mentioning to the crews.

Cheers

Mark

There is an Asda petrol station on the A1150 in Darlington, which will still be open, in the first half of the route before you leave civilisation and a Shell 24 hour petrol station on the A168 between Ripon and Thirsk on the way to Helmsley, which, as I don't have a copy of the route shouldn't be far off, after you return to civilisation in the second half.

There is also a 24 hour BP petrol staion in Hexham for the first half, which is a bit off route but about the only fuel available in the area if you require it.

Bruce, Mark - Good point

McJim - Very helpful.  Thanks all.

I am not able to contribute much to this discussion as with the Covid Regulations, late route changes, Alston Quiet Zone and MSUK regulations I am up to my neck and do not have time to detail available open fuel stations.

Planning the navigation for the C2C is not meant to be difficult. Driving and navigating the route is meant to be a step in difficulty above other CT events and is intended to be a challenge. That includes fuel planning.  It is up to each entrant to ensure that they have enough fuel.  They may need to carry some extra safely.

Howard, has graciously provided satnav files for the original route and is working on the altered route, which he will post soon.  There is nothing to stop entrants or groups of entrants, perhaps with similar cars, working out fuel plans and posting them on the Forum.

I would rather look at this than Covid precautions, but if I divert my attention to this, I regret the event will not start on time.

Chris

There is a Tesco 24 hour petrol station on the A69, half a mile west of Junction 43 of the M6 at Carlisle that would save a few pennies rather than the inflated prices at the halfway halt motorway services at Southwaite which is only a few miles down the road.

I was considering it for refuelling on our southbound journey on the RBRR.

Google maps shows a Texaco in Alston that according to its web page is 24H.

Mark

I'd check that the petrol station is still open 24 hours beforehand.

The reviews say that it stopped pay at pump in January 2021 and the Spar shop associated with the petrol station closes at 22:00.

Nothing else for miles if you're running low.

Don't always trust what Google says - they sometimes don't update their information, or the proprietors don't.

Google Maps is the initial port of call.

After that, type in the location of the petrol station and "opening hours" into Google.

Check out several of the sites to find a consensus of the opening hours.

Particularly because of Covid, many sites have the wrong information, so never rely on only one site to give you the information you require.

I learnt, to my cost, that you have to do this on the 2008 RBRR when I had planned to fill up at a supposed 24 hour petrol station, according to Google, on the A68 at Earlston in the Scottish Borders only to find it in darkness and then a fraught and frugal 34 mile drive to the Shell garage at the Dreghorn Link on the Edinburgh city by-pass.

If you're still in doubt, phone the garage and ask - done that too.

Better to be safe than stranded.

Jim.

Tim, I totally agree that stationary GT6's look really good parked at the roadside while you walk to the petrol station with your fuel can 🤣

Un appreciative of the Wedge.

I didnt realise what fun the wedge is until I got mine going. Nice poke of power and quite comfortable. Brakes are a bit rubbish though.

Currently I have TR8 EBC  GD194 discs, Yellow Stuff pads with Princess Calipers which stop me without any major problems - I changed from EOM style TR8 discs after my co-driver warped a them going down the Stelvio a few years back.

Car is basically stock engine wise - have a look on Saturday - it has covered about 52k Miles since I bought it in 2008.

Cheers

I know it's off route but there is a 24 hour Shell petrol station at the north end of Kirkby Stephen on the A685.

Going off route from Barnard Castle and picking it up again at Muker via Kirkby Stephen may reduce the fuel worries somewhat.
