mikew
I have just visited a Triumph specialist - cannot say where or who BUT they were completing a Valencia Blue MK1 that has just had in excess of £70,000 spent on it ! Absolutely every last nut and bolt was original and reconditioned. It was ffffantastic, a work of art, certainly better than when it left the factory, sadly its leaving the country when complete so we won't see it on the road here.Someone obviously really really really appreciates the big saloons, what an investment.mike
heraldhabitat
Makes my £2K make over look quite cheap! I know someone prepared to pay those sums, and good luck to him, if I was in the same position, I might do the same.

AlanChatterton
Yes Mike, but how much would it have cost if you had given your 4x4 estate to a specialist restorer to do? You probably would not have got the same level of detail and care that you have managed with yours, and I would guess the bill would have been more than £70k!Brian, the guy who did my bodywork, is an Alvis Restorer. His clients pay £75k for a car, then give it to Brian to fully rebuild with a £200k bill............... And they say there is a recession on!!?! Personally I have a big problem understanding why anyone would spend that sort of money and never use it. Cars were designed to be used and not shut away in museums / garages to be admired even if it is a never ending task to keep them on the road... I intend to drive mine toomike

Raider
Certainly good that someone is willing to spend that kind of money.I think Howard would approve of my way of spending £70,000 though ;)With that money I could buy a very good Triumph - or maybe more than one and then drive them round Europe, or ship one over to the states and drive it all over there too. What a great adventure - £20000 on a car or two and then £50000 buys alot of fuel and pays alot of travel bills 8)

Nick Moore
Hmmm, my GT6 will have cost a fair amount by the time it's finished. The bodywork and painting will be around $12,000 Australian, the engine maybe $5,000, the seats and interior $3,500... add in a Subaru diff, CV halfshafts, a different gearbox, extractor manifold, EFI components...and then there are the innumerable bits from eBay. No change out of $25k, say 15,000 pounds. Then again I've been lusting after a GT6 since the mid-nineties, so it's money well spent. And I'd hate to think what I would have gotten up to otherwise ;)
