Cleaning window soft top

Recommended Posts

Hi !

My friend bought another car a good month ago, i've been rebuilding the brakes for him for the last week.

Now i had a try with Renovo for cleaning the soft top rear windows, it was a small bit better bit still not good  :-/
Is there a way to get it better ?
I know it's very bad  :o

Arrgghhhhh! How dare you post a rude disgusting picture on this forum!  :D

;D ;D is it dirty, or faded (turned yellow) if it's turning yellow then it may be past saveable, but it's worth giving basso a go!
Plus you can then also go home and clean any brass ornaments your mum may have!

i know i know  :B :B :D
But i only trust the people on here for this kind of jobs, not the mg men !  ;D

I've had a try to clean it, but nothing much comes off.
I had a try with renovo and it's a bit better (top left corner).
Will need to look where to buy it from & co  ;)  :P

It's better to learn on a mg then on a triumph !  :P

GREYGATE PLASTIC POLISH.

Works well. Tried it myself and was impressed.

Fully concur.  Try ebay or caravan parts suppliers - used for the plastic windows.

I would definitely not risk Brasso as when I used it in the 1970s it cause serious etching of the plastic surface.  But then they may have so changed the stuff because it does not seem as good as the old stuff that it may well now be OK!

No this stuff as Ivinghoe says it the correct stuff for the job.

There is a product specifically for this - Meguiars Plastx polish - and it's excellent. Whether it can recover a window that's so far gone is another matter! I have used it to restore soft top windows in the past and it's been quite astounding what it can deal with. I also have a little bottle of the Renovo but I have never had need to try it, the Meguiars is so good.

A quick Google come up with this

This morning while i was going to get some new parts for the mg that arrived to the garage.
Noticed there i 'again' forgot the Brasso !  :B

This afternoon gone back with the Brasso !  ;D

Well the yellowy is a bit gone and at one spot you can nearly see inside !
So it's a lot better, but still not clear..
I've polished it 5 times and then i was stick of it  :P

Don't know if i going to get it better then this !
Even after the Brasso used the renovo and then it was a bit better ..

But at least i can now polish my copper brake lines with the Brasso !  ::)
