John Bonnett
Despite the styling changes my car is the same length as standard but the silencers stick out by at least 4 inches too much. The diff mounting bracket for the exhaust incorporates the clamp holding the Y piece to the straight pipe. It looks as if the Y piece needs moving forward and this would necessitate an additional clamp. So if anyone has a picture of the underneath of their car showing the position of the pipe joints I would be grateful.Thank you. MikeTeesside
If no one else comes through I can get you one tomorrow. But my system has no diff clamp. Didn't even know there should be one.
WIMPUS
Will try and take some pics of mine tomorrow, i've installed extra hangers on the diff so the Y piece is supported also.
thescrapman
John They hang best if you have a strap from each of the rear pipes up to the winged front plate on the diff. So you need to give the centre pipe a good shove up onto the front pipe.CheersColin
John Bonnett
Many thanks for your replies. At the moment the straight piece of the Y is bracketed to the diff plate so clearly the whole thing must move to the front to bring the arms of the Y into that position. willows40
Are you sure you don't have a middle section for a herald rather than spitfire, spitfire/gt6 shorter than herald/vitesse.Cheers Andy
Clive
M<y thoughts exactly. I suspect some suppliers sell the exhaust with an oversize middle section so it can be cut down to suit a spit/gt6, but fit a herald/vitesse as is.

Richard B
Yes, but was it correct when fitted to a Spitfire? Are there any witness marks for the clamps?
rlubikey
I've taken the system off now - this is the only picture I have. Any good?RichardPS: Gone back to a GT6 system c/w centre box. Less punk rock; more ... operatic tenor :)
Dannyb
I found the Y piece needs to be pushed well onto the middle section to get the silencers in the right place. Either that or the middle section needs cutting.

It looked right on the Spitfire.

I really like the way you finished the tail pipes. A nice touch and as ever well thought out.

DanM
they do stick out a bit too far on the roundtail cars as they are designed to finish approximately level with the mk4/1500 rear bumper. which is further back than the valance on early cars and I guess yours

stevegt6
Got something similar to Wimpus on my GT6 - may have a pic somewhere or will snap a couple tomorrow.I am running mine (MK3) without rear bumper and the ends do poke out very slightly beyond the body, but only just - again, a pic will be better... stevegt6
Couple more showing tail pipes at rear... These are just the standard stainless type that I think all the suppliers sell. The back boxes are a couple of mm from the rear x-member, so cannot go further back - would have to modify the 'tails' if want shorter
RedRooster
Here's mine took a lot of fettling to get it right.RR
John Bonnett
Right, well after a lot of messing about I've got the exhaust and silencers mounted as high as I possible can. They still hang down farther than I would have liked and if they do present a problem with ground clearance they may not stay on the car for very long. I managed to retain the diff mount on the straight bit of pipe before it branches into the Y so that was a bonus.
